Hi!

Katie and Catherine and I decided in Dec. that we should have a DallasCon this year. While planning for WenchCon was going on, we decided (with Rivka's help [I get to capitalize her name because I met her, hee hee]) that Memorial Day weekend would be a good time for it. This can probably change if there end up being too many problems with it. That's also close to my birthday; we will be having cake. [Big Grin] If it's close to your birthday, your name can be on the cake, too; just tell me, and I'll arrange for it. [Cool]

Since Katie doesn't like all this organization stuff and I find it relaxing, I will be doing it. However, she's the mastermind behind the idea, so I expect her to help me with all the fun stuff. (hint, hint)

What I'd like to know at this point is:

1) Are you interested in coming?
2) Is that a good time for you?
3) What would you like to do in Dallas or thereabouts?
4) What's important to you that I should arrange for?
5) If you come, will you be bringing a child/children? What age(s)? (I have one of my own, and if enough end up coming, we may have a few provisions made just for their comfort and entertainment; I hear the Children's Museum is pretty cool.)
6) Anything else I should know?

Oooh, boy, this should be fun!

(Papa Moose, if you come, I had my brother-in-law, who plays piano, teach me "In the Leafy Treetops" the other night. [Big Grin] )

[ROFL] Actually, I respond to both "rivka" and "Rivka" perfectly happily -- from any and all jatraqueros.

1) Yes!
2) At least as good as any, and far better than most.
3) You left out a verb. [Wink] But assuming it was "do" or "see," I don't know enough about the local attractions to make specific requests. Mostly, I'd like to spend lots of time talking and playing games with other Hatrackers. [Smile]
4) I have a preference (but NOT a requirement) for a hotel that's near enough to the Orthodox Jewish community that I could walk to a synagogue. (Assuming there is a reasonable hotel that fits that criterion; there may well not be, and I will try to find out synagogue locations.)
[Addit: synagogue locations]
5) Probably not, but it is a possibility.
6) Thank you!!! [Group Hug]

[Laugh] Excellent! Now the Meese will HAVE to come! [Big Grin]

1. Ooh! Though I am far from a prolific poster, and most in the community know little to nothing about me, and in fairness I would probably be better categorized as a lurker than a member, I would still like to come.
2. It's quite possible. What exact dates are planned could change that, though.
3. No Preferences. Theatre is always good, though. Didn't I hear something about a Cirque du Soleil in Dallas soon? If not, we could go cheaper, maybe a local show.
4. Big hairy strippers [Big Grin]
5. Well I don't have any children, but if your little one needs company, there are plenty in this area, I'm sure one or two won't be missed [Wink]
6. Nope!

1) Sure - it's close enough I don't have to shell out cash for a plane ticket.
2) It should be alright, depending on what internship I get and when it starts...
3) I've only been there once for business, so didn't really get to see anything.
4) Cheap but nice hotel rooms?
5) Nope.
6) Nothing I can think of now...

ah, good, also i probably wont be able to make it, since Dallas is far from me, but it sounds cool, i hope you all have fun. [Hat]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Rivka, I've already been looking into that. I had questions about what qualifies as the type of shul you'd go to, but the linky fixed that. The Richardson Hotel has kosher kitchens, so if we had it there they could cater, but I haven't checked into rates or locations. They may be close to one of those, though. Now that I have a list, I'll check it out.

As for the name, I distinguish between handles and persons I've met-- at least in my mind, and my writing reflects that. [Smile]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

The Richardson has an exclusive contract with a specific kosher caterer, yes. However, given the fact that in-hotel catering tends to be expensive (and kosher more so), and there are a number of kosher retailers, I'd suggest doing what we did at Kamacon. (Assuming that I'm the only one with dietary restrictions.)

That is, let me worry about kosher food, and y'all worry about everything else. [Smile]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Oh, I'm leaning that way, yes. There's an Albertson's with a kosher deli and bakery, if I remember aright. (I've got the Dallas Kosher Society page bookmarked, just haven't looked in a bit.) I was just saying, I'm considering all options at this point.

Which is why I need to know who is interested and in what, and when. [Big Grin]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Yeah, the Albertson's (from the descriptions I read) sounds GREAT! [Big Grin]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

And it's super close to my house.

I apparently live near the Orthodox Jewish part of town; most of the temples and kosher places seem to be on this side of town.

I'm also very close to the Richardson Mosque and the Muslim butcher places. Go figure. [Dont Know]

Does the DallasCon have to be in Texas? Because Texas is one of the few states I'm boycotting right now.

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Why are you boycotting it, Tom?

Dallas is an easy drive for me. So if nothing comes up between now and then, I might be able to make it.

Farmgirl

Posted by BelladonnaOrchid (Member # 188) on :

1) Sure we're interested in coming! I'll bring my hubby, but be warned that the reason he wants to come probably has something to do with tatoos...

2) It sounds like it is, however, we shall see as we get closer to May. I just hope that both Rick and I will be able to get the time off for it.

3) Ice skating at the Galleria! That would be so much fun, even though I'm not much good at it.

4) Lol...I'm from Oklahoma, so you'll have to talk
really slow around me.

5) No kiddies, at least not yet. We are newly-weds after all. I may pop one out between now and then! [Eek!]

6) Purple monkeys like to eat green cheese on Sunday mornings? No, nothing important that I can think of.

I'm looking forward to being 'real'!

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

You're not real yet?!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yes, it has to be in TX, but, honestly, Dallas isn't as bad as most of TX.

Thanks for the enthusiasm, guys!

Memorial Day or Labor Day? Because if it is Memorial day it is awfully close to the BobnDana wedding event, and I don't think I'll be able to do both.

AJ

Posted by Lady Jane (Member # 7249) on :

Hmm...it is currently being considered for Memorial Day, but that isn't set. There are a couple things that could change the date, I think: (1) Too close to WenchCon and Bobandana's wedding, and (2) Kama coming. She might, and if she did, it might be in June, and so it would be nice to have it then so everyone could see everyone.

So, if you want to come but can't in May but could in June, put in a vote, I think. [Smile]

Tom, Dallas isn't nearly as Texas as Houston is. There are only a few oil fields, and everyone doesn't have to go to the Cowtown Stockyards OR to Billy Bob's. Also, the best sushi in five states is in a Dallas suburb, and my favorite restaurant is a Spanish bistro located close to the largest gay church in the U.S. It could be okay. [Smile]

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

Kama is going to think the entire U.S. is always unbearably hot if she goes to Dallas in the Summer.

I'd probably not be able to attend at any time during May or June as I am going to CA for my brother's college graduation in early June. I'm not putting it as definite event on the CA jatraqueros calendar though, since I have a bunch of non-hatrack friends out there that I haven't seen as recently as most of the jatraqueros so they have first dibs on my time after my family.

too bad we didn't do this last year... we could have used my pool, barbeque grill and Spare Oom... all now unavailible. [Frown]

KQ, if I may be of assistance in some way, let me know (the only thing that comes to mind is that my vehicle seats 8 in a pinch).

For those who are wondering what to do in Dallas:
A Ranger game, The Dallas World Aquarium, the Horse track (Lone Star Park), Six Flags Over Texas, Dallas Museum of Art, Kimball Art Museum, local IMAX theaters, and Ft. Worth Zoo could all make fun social outings which do not cost too much. Edit: DUH! the Sixth Floor Museum is here, too, of course.

For those with kids, I know a few cool playgrounds [Smile]

Question to those living in the Dallas area: are you planning on staying in the same place as the others, or at home? Does it depend on what part of the city we have it in?

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

You know, somewhere down there in that general vicinity of Dallas/Fort Worth I have an ex-step-son I would like to look up (Ivygirl's half-brother). I wonder how I would go about finding him while we are there...

Farmgirl

Posted by Lady Jane (Member # 7249) on :

I will stay in the hotel with everyone, but I HIGHLY recommend getting a hotel with an airport shuttle. It depends on how many people come, but transportation is the biggest possible headache and a hotel with an airport shuttle is the best solution for it.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Farmgirl, I think that would depend on how old he is, what you know about his current situation, and whether he's listed in the phone book.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Rivka, I've been e-mailing Jeff's old boss, who has apparently put Orthodox people up in Dallas before, since he recommended a place (with meeting rooms and a group discount, have to call and talk to them about other details) literally across the street from one Orthodox synagogue and within walking distance of another. We'll work on finding others, if there are any, but if not, will definitely check this place out as an option.

Everyone else: is heat an issue for you? It's not usually that hot by the end of May here (by Dallas standards), but would you prefer a lot of indoor time? Who likes the idea of the zoo? What about museums? Renting a projector and watching movies on a really big screen? Other ideas? And if you come, how long will you be staying?

Posted by Coccinelle (Member # 5832) on :

I'm coming [Big Grin] It depends on my finances and location as to whether I'll spend the night at the hotel or at my house.

Oh, you're welcome, but it's really my pleasure. Really. I love planning parties, trips, just about anything of this nature. Especially when it involves many people with different needs and wants, and I manage to get it right for everyone. Speaking of needs and wants, besides Rivka, and Katie with the airport shuttle ( [Wink] ), is there anyone else with special needs or desires? For instance, who will want to share rooms? Is anyone vegetarian/vegan? Who will have to have Tex-Mex food (gag me with a spoon) while they're here? Who will be travelling early to get a cheaper fare and need a nap in the afternoon, so I shouldn't plan anything (if that's your habit, I mean, I know it's early to know)? I've begun making charts, and it would be helpful to remember what I need to account for. [Smile]

I don't know yet what is going on, but I think that weekend would work for me (possibly us). I'm in West Fort Worth, so I'd be staying at my own home - Dallas is only 45 minutes away or so. I think zoos, museums, aquarium, etc. sounds like a lot of fun - but I'm a big kid myself. (;

Cool, Tink! That's a bit far of a drive for me, but then, I live about 30 mins. or less from most of the hotels and I'm still staying in the hotel, just for fun. [Smile] Out of curiosity, are your smilies left-handed or something (not to be rude, I've just never seen them like that before).

In another thread, someone brought this up: is anyone interested in a talent show, possibly followed by a jam if we get enough musicians? I'm thinking Sat. night would be good for it. Who's interested? We can do spur-of-the-moment skits, songs, anyone who has a hard case can bring a guitar (I can also have a guitar and mandolin available if anyone plays and doesn't want to bring their own), you can dance, tell jokes, whatever. Sound fun?

Maybe karaoke could be an option after a talent show? I'd love to include people who don't like to sing, but who will dance, recite poetry, read from something they wrote, or tell jokes for us. Any chance that someone might be able to borrow a drumset out there?

Otherwise I guess I can just bring my guitar and mandolin, though Drums is my main instrument.

I *might* be able to get a set there... but it's unlikely. I'm more probably able to provide sound reinforcement.

Was anyone interested in Scarborough Faire? It's a bit of a drive, but might be fun, say, for anyone staying until Monday night or later. We should decide now because the 28th of Feb. is the last day to get the biggest discount on tickets (we probably won't qualify for a group rate) at their website.

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Well, it looks like it would be a lot of fun, but.... yowzah -- tickets are $15 a piece, and I would have to figure on top of the cost of the trip down (at unknown gas prices) and the cost of the hotel and food. I dunno. Too early for me to commit to being able to do that.

Farmgirl

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yeah, honestly, I'm going to be going before that, so while it would be fun to go with you all, I'll be okay to skip it.

I don't think my staying until Monday is terribly likely. Too bad -- I'd love to go.

Maybe next year. [Wink]

Posted by Lady Jane (Member # 7249) on :

Actually, my vote is no for scarborough faire. It's very fun in theory, but is executed only so-so. There's more vendors than things to do, and there aren't a lot (if any) plays and things going on. I went with a lot of high hopes and wasn't thrilled with it - I'm sorry. We need to think of some place to wear the outfits, I agree, but scarborough faire is kind of expensive for the payoff.

I think I'm taking my students on a field trip there earlier that month. I just have to find an angle to fit it into my curriculum [Smile]

Better than Scarborough Faire is the Renaissance Festival in Houston. I don't know what time of year it is (I'm thinking it's in the fall), but it's very, very fun.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yup, that one's usually fall. I suggested this one because I've been once and had fun, it's not too far, and their dates overlapped with ours. Like I said, though, I'll be going anyway, so if people who are staying would rather hit a museum or just mellow that day, that's fine. [Smile]

I'm going to try to get as much planned as possible. If worst comes to worst, I'll fly back out for DallasCon and coordinate as much as possible over the phone/e-mail with those living here before hand. I'm pretty sure it'll still happen, don't worry. (Although I may be wrong; if no one is willing to take over the major planning and we're moving in May, it may just not work out. But I'm optomistic.)

We'll have to ask KQ. The Boy Scouts annual meeting is that week/weekend, and I don't need to be there for all of it, but I do for some of it, so I don't think I can plan anything. So did Jeff get the job, KQ? Did I miss another thread about it?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Here's the situation with the job:

My aunt is a CPA in Pasadena, CA. She just does some freelance work now and then; mostly, she's on disability. (Her health is very poor.)

She has a friend and a former partner, both CPAs, who each need a tax preparer/accounting assistant, which is what my husband would really love to be doing. Her opinion carries a lot of weight with each of them, and he has experience doing this. So she is supposed to be vetting his resume and stuff for him before writing a recommendation/cover letter, talking to her friends, and giving it to them. However, she is still taking care of a few of her former tax clients, so she is understandably very busy right now.

Hopefully, we will know by the end of the month. That's kind of a deadline for us, because our lease ends and we need to either renew or be out by May 1. So we would like to know whether to give up the apartment and prepare to move, sign a month-by-month lease becasue we'll be moving but not immediately (or becasue we still won't know whether we're moving or not), or sign another year's lease. If they like Jeff's credentials, he will probably need to do a phone interview with whichever one(s) wants them, and we'd have to work out pay and moving expenses and such (although my aunt will make sure they're willing to pay a reasonable amount before we make a move halfway across the country.) Even if they pay a little less than we'd really need, my aunt has some friends who have one child and are expecting a second, and need a daytime caregiver for their kids, since the one they're currently using is too far away. Since I have experience in that, she's thinking that I should be able to supplement Jeff's income by taking care of their children in my home, which would be a wonderful compromise since I don't want to leave Emma to work. So, if they like Jeff, it really looks like we'd be able to make it work, but right now, we don't know what's going on or if they'll like his qualifications, since they have all been too busy for my aunt to get them Jeff's resume, etc.

*wipes forehead* Whew! That was a lot, sorry.

Okay, I need some updated numbers.

Please answer:

1) Are you coming? How many are you bringing?
2) Are you planning on your own room (or a room for you and whoever is coming with you), or are you planning on sharing with someone else? Or are you staying at home?
3) Are you driving or flying in? (Or taking the bus, or riding the train, or whatever?)

I need this ASAP; it affects reservation plans. Thanks.

Well for me:

1) Are you coming? How many are you bringing?

I am still planning to come. Anywhere from two of us to four of us - the boys haven't decided yet.

.
2) Are you planning on your own room (or a room for you and whoever is coming with you), or are you planning on sharing with someone else? Or are you staying at home?

We will probably have our own room, or rooms, just because there are so many of us. However, if only Ivygirl and I come - we would be happy to share our room.
.

3) Are you driving or flying in? (Or taking the bus, or riding the train, or whatever?)

Driving in. Will be happy to help get others to/from where they need to be, if possible.

I need to know whether to buy tickets!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Well, if only one or two people will be flying in, it might actually be do-able to not have a shuttle. As long as there are guidelines in place, anyway.

That would significantly open up our options in accomodations. Including one hotel directly across the street from an Orthodox synagogue and two blocks from another, although I haven't gotten a price quote from them yet. I need to hunt out the e-mail with their contact information and get a final estimate on how many we're having.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

That would be great, if doable. [Smile] I really enjoyed visiting the local services at KamaCon.

But it's also not necessary, so don't worry about it if there's a hotel that works better for everyone. [Smile]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Don't worry. My priorities go like this:

1) They can accomodate the number of people we will have in the style to which we are accustomed, including a room to hang out in.
2) We will not be robbed, mugged, or even uncomfortable in the area.
3) Reasonable price that will allow all who want to and can make the time to attend and enjoy.
4) Reasonable proximity to attractions, restaurants, and/or other places we may want to make use of.
5) Proximity to synagogue.
6) Friendly staff and good service; willing to put up with insane Jatraqueros.
7) Services or facilities such as airport shuttle, breakfast, or game room that will make it easier or more enjoyable for attendees.
8) Attractive area and/or view.
9) I am too lazy to call any more hotels and settle for the best one I have so far.

Sound reasonable? [Big Grin]

I'm coming. That Friday is the last day of school, so it will either be a very laid back, easy day and I'll get to leave early or it'll be crazy, stressful and hectic and I'll have to stay late.

I am not sure if I'll stay at the hotel. For the moment I think not, but I reserve the right to change my mind.

I'll be happy to help get people from the airport, if it's not during work. I live only 15 minutes from there.

Anything else? I'm happy to help if at all possible, but next week. This week- four papers to write [Big Grin]

I'm coming, I'm driving, and I'm probably bringing the three kids. Maybe my dad too.

I don't know if the budget will allow a hotel room or if I'll have to make it a day trip, though.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Boon, what price would make it reasonable for you to get to stay at least one night with us?

Posted by Boon (Member # 4646) on :

Okay, seeing as it's a six hour drive, maybe we'll just have to see how much we can make the budget squeak. Is most everyone coming for Friday night-Saturday...or what?

Right now, my budget for the trip is at $150. I'll be able to get down there and back for about $50 of that.

The trip will cost less for food and lodging if I can convince my dad to come up here and stay with the kids. The problem with that is that my husband probably won't agree to me coming down there alone. He's fine if he or my dad are with me, but he worries otherwise.

The most important stuff is happening Saturday night after dark, so as not to interfere with anyone's Sabbath. (Note to self: find out what time "dark" will be, approximately.)

There will be hanging out going on Friday and Sunday as well, but not as awesome. Monday I will be around, but some people will have to be leaving by then.

Full dark . . . let's see, Hebcal calculates that to be about 9:15. Yep, almost summer, so that makes sense.

Is the conference room stuff going to be the Saturday night after dark thing? because I am scheduled to play that night so I won't be there for that...

Jim-me, the conference room is our "hang out spot" for the whole time, so I need the maximum possible body count to make sure we're not going to be breaking any fire codes. [Smile]

Boon, I think the baby will be sleeping at home, but if we move, she'll be with me, unless she's weaned completely by then (I doubt it, but it may happen). If she's not with me, or if she is and your kids aren't, or if you don't mind or whatever, I'll share a room with you if necessary (or with you and your kids). Or we'll work something out. Don't worry, if you want to come, we'll make it happen. Hatrack is good about things like that, right, guys?

Sounds like my teens can get a chance to practice their babysitting skills here - so these parents can have a little breathing time to visit (shh... don't tell them that yet).

I can't pick up Boon unless I rent a vehicle, which I can't see me doing at this point. We barely all fit in my pickup the way it is. Not that I don't wish I could, because I do wish I could..

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Well, in the next week, I will be working even harder on finding a place. (Not that I haven't been working on it, but Emma's party is this Sat.-- and I haven't gotten all the responses for that yet, either *sigh*-- so I'll be less preoccupied with other matters.) So yes, I still need to know a pretty good estimate of a number to tell the hotel. When I manage to find us a place, which I imagine will be within the next week, I would advise anyone flying to start looking for tickets. [Smile]

I'll be coming in some time Friday -- no later than midday. When being delayed a few hours can mean getting stuck in an airport for Shabbos, one really does one's best NOT to travel Friday afternoon.

Yes, rivka will be there earlier. And I'll probably be hanging around the hotel with her. [Smile] But I'm sure people will get in at a wide variety of times and some maybe even Sat. morning, and some have to leave earlier than others. Anyone who wishes is free to post when they intend to travel, to aid in plan-making.

Posted by Boon (Member # 4646) on :

Okay, then I'll plan to get up early Friday morning for the drive. That'll put me in Dallas around 11 or noon.

From my mapping software, I see that DFW is northwest of Dallas proper. I'll have at least 3 empty seats in the car for anyone needing a ride anywhere I'm going, and I'm willing to pick rivka or anyone else who needs a ride from the airport. Now all we need is a hotel...is there anything I can do to help on that?

Well, if I don't keep my promise, I'm sending you the bill when my dead cat's ashes rise up and fly across the country to ruin my apartment. :-|

Hey! How is that fair?

You pushed me and I promised.

I'm a crazy stalker lady. Are you sure you want to come out and see me? [Razz]

!!!

. . . um . . . let me get back to you on that. [Angst]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Don't worry, I won't sneak into your room and watch you wash your hair while you're here. Really I won't. *looks absolutely innocent*

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

O_O

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Have you noticed how innocent I always seem to look around you? And yet you're always making faces at me. *sigh*

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

INNOCENT?

HAH!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Oh, yes, you have daughters. You probably see right through that face.

*thinks*

*Googles to find a better innocent face*

[Big Grin]

Daughters schmauters. My son does a better innocent face than either, and none comes close to the one I have perfected.

*polishes halo*

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Really? See, my brother, and most of the boys I knew, never really cared to perfect the innocent face. They would rather just quietly (or loudly) cause mayhem, then become silent and sullen when questioned about it.

He has that mode as well. He's just multi-talented. [Wink]

lol! Well, he is related to you. [Wink]

I'm not sure if that was meant to be a compliment, but I will take it as such. [Big Grin]

A little glitch on our end.

Our church choir has a big number scheduled for Memorial Day weekend -- and I didn't know about it until yesterday. I told the director we would probably not be here for it, and he was very alarmed -- see, our small church choir only has about 15 to 20 members total -- and my family (myself and my kids) are FOUR of those members. So he would be losing a substantial part of the choir if we are absent.

So I don't know - I will talk with him and see if we can perform on a different date, or if they feel they can do okay without us.

Plus there is a Sunday School "cookout" that weekend, and last year they used my farm as location, and want to again this year (although they didn't ask me until now, so I can truthfully say I had other plans).

The thing is, my kids would rather stay here and do the cookout than go to Dallas. So I'm getting a lot of pressure to abandon DallasCon.

[Confused]

I know I was offline for three days, and I'm kinda tired at the moment, having just given up on getting to sleep tonight . . . but wasn't there a more recent DallasCon thread? It seems not to exist any longer.

[Dont Know]

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Yes there was! Let me see if I can find it. It was the one where Coccinelle offered to help...

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Well, apparently the other thread...

no longer exists. It was deleted.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Yep, that's what I discovered.

What I don't know is why, and/or if more discussion occurred in it after I last saw it and before it was deleted. [Dont Know]

Hmm...KQ was going to make another thread, but I don't know exactly what's going on. She is still handling everything for DallasCon. I suggest contacting her directly. [Smile]

She is currently waiting for updated quotes from a couple of hotels. She is rather irritated, as she left the messages on Friday.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

They won't call you. You'll probably have to call them back. *wrinkles nose* Sorry.

*trying not to noodge*

*noticing ticket prices rising*

I have called three times.

I finally got one call back.

Not blaming! Just tzittering.

*goes to find something useful to do*

*slams down phone* Since when do reservation agents get half days? [Grumble]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Have now eliminated several people who aren't there to talk to me; getting closer.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

The hotel is awaiting your reservations! This is going to be great, guys. Not too many of us are coming, so those who are, shall we decide what we're doing? What's important to do or see in Dallas? I figure we're going out to dinner Sat. night (should I reserve the private dining room?) Night life, Texas music, improv games, historical sights, what are you up for?

Posted by Boon (Member # 4646) on :

I'm goin' with the flow on this one. I'm just happy to get to hang out with you guys.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

That's cool, too, but if we want to do anything we need reservations for, we should decide that at least a couple of weeks in advance. [Smile]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Or, like, if we wanted to do a book or accessory exchange, we should decide that in time for everyone to decide what they want to bring.

I have a couple books that I have no interest in reading again, but someone else might.

Turtle Moon for one, and I think one or two others.

Remind me who all is joining us or likely to?

Lessee...

You
Me + family
FG + kids
Boon
Coccinelle
kat, for at least some of the stuff, but she doesn't know how much, because of a work thing
Fishtail + hubby
Risuena (maybe, maybe not, going to try)
rav (possible, not sure)
Jim-me + kaboodle of kids
Tink said yes-- maybe but haven't seen her around in a bit

I think that's everyone who's expressed interest and then not said they can't make it.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Ok, so that doesn't sound like there are any likely roomies anyway. So, unless someone (female) yelps real quick that they are interested in sharing a room with Boon 'n me, I'll just book the room.

Blackcatwings (Ivygirl's best friend) may be coming with us as well. (She posted on here back in December some).

If she does, that will make me have to re-think my whole room setup. Because if it is just my family, we will all share one room. But if I have an additional 17 year old girl, then probably her sharing a room with us, including my 17 year old boy, would be something her parents would frown on, no matter whether I'm there or not.

But we'll figure it out.

So, is everyone who's coming planning on going to dinner together Sat. night? I think that will be our one big "all together" activity, and it will be really fun. But I need to know how many are going to make it to figure things out with the restaurant. (Madras Pavilion, kosher Indian vegetarian food.)

And we're still having a birthday cake; everyone wanted chocolate, right?
