A friend of mine at work was telling me about theis web site...so I though I would check it out. I am not a huge poker fan, but I have played it off and on for years.
You can either play for real money on this site, or play for fun which is what i do. It is a lot more fun playing No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em when you don't have to worry about losing your shirt...
Does anyone else here like to play poker? My screen name there is KweaJr, in case you run across me, and I am usually playing the no-limit texas hold'em tables just for fun.
See you there.

My husband plays at Paradise Poker and PartyPoker.
I've played under his screen name at Paradise and I like it there. I've also played a few times at Yahoo.
Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :
That was weird..I put up the partypoker link, but it isn't there...I must have erased it by accident....hmmmm......
Is everyone sure there's no spyware in the client program?

It's hard for me to imagine a game I'd find less interesting than poker.
Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :
MPH, I like this new curmudgeonly side of you.
Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :
Positive, Dagonee...I have 3 spyware checkers, and they are all saying it is clean. also, I looked into the company because I was uneasy about it, it turns out that they are pretty good.
I even know a few people who have made some real good money at it there, but I don't want to gamble for real no matter how safe it may be. It just isn't my thing.
MPH....fine. Be that way.

I'd REALLY like to gamble real money, enough that I'm not going to, ever.

I apparently haven't seen whatever movie you are referring to.

What, are you sure you aren't "dreaming", Dag?
If you keep going to the teller you can have up to 5,000 in play money at one time...more if you ante up, then keep going to the teller. Up to 9,900 that way.
I have almost 2 mill now, and I won it all in the past 3 days.
Too bad it isn't real, huh?
Kwea
Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :
Dag, I am going there now....what name are you under, the same as here?
Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :
Dag, don't get me wrong, I like gambleing in person, as long as it is as entertainment. I go down to Foxwoods Casino, or more often to Mohegan Sun, and I will drop a few coins in a machine or once and a while sit at a table. I don't bring much money with me because that way I don't have to worry about it, I just bring enough money with me to have some fun.
It is called disposable income... I usually only spend about $40 total, for me and my wife. We would spend almost that much going to dinner and a movie, probably more than that.
I also shoot pool, and play in tournaments for cash. I don't usually like betting one on one, it leads to bad feelings, but sometimes if someone pisses me off I make an exception.
But I doubt I will EVER play for money on-line, the risks are too high. Both the risks of theft or scheating, and the personal risks of betting money I need for other things.
As long as it is a hobby, and one I do rarely, it isn't a problem....adn I would like to keep it that way.
Kwea
Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :
Exactly. I'll play in person, in places far away and inconvenient to get to.
I'm going to try to get a screename of Dagonee.

Register it now, and I will put you on my buddy list.
My name there is KweaJr.
Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :
You can use credit cards, I know a friend who used his MC to do it.
Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :
OK, I registered as Dagonee and added you to my buddy list, but now I'm going out to lunch w/ Eve.

hmmm..Ok, see you later, maybe.
Posted by Bokonon (Member # 480) on :
I'm on it, haven't played in a while, and never played for money online (made 35 bucks in 4 hours off friends playing pot-limit hold-em last week...). I've also lost 80 bucks at Foxwoods playing 2-4 limit Hold-Em.
I think pot-limit is my game, it plays to my intuitions better, without worrying about losing a lot quickly. Maybe I'll log on some time latter (after 10pm) tonight.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :
What is your screennames, Bok? The same?
What is the difference between pot-limit and no-limit? Is it that the highest bet you can make is what is in the pot?
There are so many variations that it gets confusing when you don't play that often...like me.

I like playing small change poker with my dad's family. Two or three dollars in nickels and dimes will give you hours of entertainment and maybe an extra dollar or two. We play draw, stud, Texas Holdem, and 5/7-card no-peek (which is my favorite because I somehow manage to always win).

I am home sick today, so I thought I would play a bit.
I lost 1.5 million in 2 hours.
THAT is why I don't play for real money...
I didn't even do anything wrong...the guy who was beating me kept beating me by one card as a kicker (i'd have 2 pair, and he would ahve the same pair, but his kicker would beat mine my one), and he took most of that money.
Oh well, at leat I can still pay my rent on the 15th...lol..

MPH, I suggest that Yatzy is even more boring than poker. Or, of course, there's the game where one player rolls a die, and the other player also rolls a die. And the highest roll wins. Which is a reasonable description of Yatzy, give or take a few bells and whistles.

I play for real money on party poker
my name there is Athalus04
I just play on the very low stakes tables (.50/1.00). I don't like playing on the play money tables since people don't play the same when money is not involved. This way I can play real poker, but not risk much on any one hand.
I have found them to be trustworthy, I have withdrawn money from my account in the past and it worked fine. I actually don't have any money that I put in left in my account there...it is all stuff I have won. Though, I don't keep much in there just in case. Generally 25-75 bucks.

I play on pokerroom.com for play money, but I think I'm going to switch to partypoker. The only time I play for real money is with friends, and it's only $5 entrance fee and winner-takes-all. And I have a net gain of $15 from those games
Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :
That wouldn't be bad, but I don't like giving my info to anything offshore, you know...
I will be on tonight, probably.
BYW adam, I wasn't complaining, just mentioning. I was pretty gracious to him too, so much so that he was suprised. It helps that it wasn't real money for any number of reasons...
It was just aggrivating a bit because it wasn't the common cards that I was planning on, and he beat me on the kick every time over a two hour period. I didn't out kick him once.
Oh well, next time...

I played a bit of party poker over the summer. Managed to lose $50 in about an hour(no worries though, my real life poker winnings over the summer more than made up for that). I had some crazy hands when playing for play money, here's some screenshots:
When I get back out to school I'll have to play with you guys, get to know some of you... and take your (play) money.

Sounds good to me!
I had a straight flush today, 6-10, and it got beat.

I got beat by one, in spades though....he had the Jack.
Same guy who beat me on a hand of 1-a's, 2-q's....he had a king kicker, while I had a 10.
Since each hand is suppose to be out of per deck, what are the chances of the same hand at the same time, huh?
Then he beat me, for a pot of 685,000...I had a full house, 3-J, 2-Q.....he had 3-K, 2-Q

I've started to do a little Hold'em to make a bit of cash on the side, for anyone that wants to play with real money but doesn't want to put the money in instantbankroll.com give you $75 to play, and if you play 500 raked hands (pots over $5) within a month you get another $25, play another 500 and you can withdrawl. Likelyhood is someone won't get that much, but it's worth trying, and fun...no catch. Everybody says that there's spyware in partypoker software, and i've only found one little thing that is very easy to remove.
For people that are really interested in playing for some sort of money, the three books that small time professional players will recommend are:
Winning Low-Limit Hold'em - Lee Jones (ISBN: 1886070156)
No-Limit Texas Hold`Em - Tom McEvoy (ISBN: 1580421482)
Small Stakes Hold `em - Ed Miller, David Sklansky, Mason Malmuth (ISBN: 1880685329)
If you're not actually willing to get that deep into it, then Doyle Brunson's Super System (ISBN: 1580420818) is a good book, btw if you're wanting to buy all those books, the best price you can get is at Overstock.com (gee, I wonder if someone's done his homework). My friend's brother is actually paying for his health insurance, apartment, and all living costs off of poker winnings on partypoker. Enjoy!

I have run 3 spyware programs on my computer since installing partypoker.com, and I haven't had a single hit on spyware.

I even asked a friend about it who works for a computer company around here, and he plays there too. He sadi that he has never had a problem, not with partypoker.com.
Not that I am saying you are lying, but I was just very suprised...
