But appearantly, someone wondered about them a whole lot more than I did. But, cool things came out of it.

I had a good idea of where most where from working at UPS here in SLC, and working on the heavy loading trailers. I got to know area codes too (from doing dialup techsupport for MSN for 2 years [Frown] )

Wow, that is cool! I never realized there were so many zipcodes that weren't taken. And look how rectilinear the dots are in the midwest. In one part of Kansas I explored, the numbers were assigned alphabetically to towns, within the district covered. That was odd. It makes a rough kind of sense but it's not consistent from state to state or region to region. What a strange system!

Does one zip code always equal one post office? Or is that only a rough rule too?

Oddly enough...this is kinda cool, but I will officially leave it as nifty. I like it. [Cool]

I always wondered why Montana zip codes start with 5 when the rest of the country seems to be more or less east to west. It looks like they lumped us in with Iowa & Wisconsin. Type in 8, though, and check out what a huge geographical area it covers!

Is 55555 the only valid zip code with all 5 numbers identical? This is so much fun to play with! [Smile]

Oh, wait, no, there's 22222 and 44444 as well! [Smile]

I wish I had a cool zip code like that.

I guess I could move.

Not that any of those three places look particularly attractive.... aside from the cool zip code, that is.

01001: Agawam, MA. This seems like the lowest number.

Nope, 00210: Portsmouth, NH

The numbers turn yellow when there's not one like you typed in. White means there is.

Every ZIP code contains a post office*, but I'm not sure if every post office has it's own ZIP code.
true. the zip+4 identifies a specific office. a 5-digit zip can have many offices.
