Yes, and we didn't find out until a month and a half AFTER THE FRICKIN FACT.
I am so mad right now.
The doctor thinks that the West Nile touched off his Gillian-Barre. All I know is that while he's doing great, he's nowhere near what he was and it's slowly killing him inside.
*sigh*
I thought everone would like to know how he's doing, though, and I can't find the other thread at the moment. Again, thank you everyone for your well-wishes and prayers.

That's really awful! And here it sounded like he was doing so well!
Our thoughts are still with your family. Thanks for the update!

(((Mayday))) I'm so sorry, both that he has it and that they didn't figure it out right away. Posted by Space Opera (Member # 6504) on :

Yes, I know it takes them an extremely long time to do the West Nile test -- here they have to send it off to some Federal lab -- apparently only certain labs have the equipment to make a positive West Nile determination.
My neighbor, who had it two(?) years ago now, and he was a healthy, strapping, 40-ish farmer, still suffers some side effects and loss of strength. We are just glad he's alive.
I will keep your dad in my prayers for sure, that he will have a good recovery and the best of care...

Mayday, I have(had) ADEM, another type of encephalitis, and if you want to email me, do. I have found more information on my own and in a discussion group than from doctors.
