I like the Harry Potter books just as much as anyone, but I really think this is getting out of hand. Movies, board games, action figures, clothing, and candy? When will it ever stop? In a few years, we will all look back on this and think how stupid the whole thing was anyway. And how much are the paying the kid playing Harry Potter? I don't care its too much! I just felt like fuming a little.

While you're at it, why don't you fume about rock salt? It really ticks me off.

But...feeding his little brother sardine Bertie Botts was one of the highlights of my eldest's Christmas!

The first three books were good.

Ohhh, don't get me started on rock salt! [Mad]

Sitting there, all big. Not content to be a nice, sensible-sized grain. Thinks it's so hot because it's used to make ice cream.

Ummmm.. we used to suck on pieces of rock salt when growing up.....

I have no trouble with Harry Potter. If these books help to create a whole new generation of readers then more power to them.

I like cheese.

Were you sucking on the rock salt, Farmgirl, or was the rock salt sucking on you?

If people didn't over-rate Harry Potter, they'd find some other proxy to worship.

Why not just enjoy the books, and ignore all of the merchandizing? How much money Daniel Ratcliff makes has absolutely nothing to do with whether they are good books, or even whether they're good movies.

Because the rock salt won't let us!

So pour some water on it.

Does Harry Potter also dissolve in water? How does that work in the whole witchy thing?

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

He disolves in water, but things can get really ugly if you make a super-saturated HP solution.

Rock salt and Mt. Dew tastes kind of good.

And wherever you sow Harry Potter, nothing will grow...

Look on the bright side, JK Rowling who started off poor, on the dole as a single mother is now making a kabillion dollars.
She totally deserves it for coming up with such an excellent series.
Now, what I want is for them to start selling Quidditch jerseys! I'd love to have a full set of them!
But, as long as the stories are good, I don't really care what they do.

"a few years, we will all look back on this and think how stupid the whole thing was anyway"

That is what someone probably said about the 1956 Little Richard concert poster that my cousin sold on Ebay for 12,000 bucks.

Nobody, and I mean nobody deserves as much money as she has gotten.

But out of all the people to get it, she's better than most.

IF i can't be rich, why not some other person who does a really good job?
Just because I'm going to spend the rest of my life making four digits, doesn't meaen that someone out there who can make me that happy with a book series shouldn't make... 20 digits... [Grumble]
*slightly jealous*

Syn, just make sure your four digits are multiplied exponentially, and you will be fine. [Wink]

I like the books.
I don't like the jellybeans.

None of us deserve any amount of money.

Heck, I didn't do anything to deserve being born, or to be provided with a planet with the right amount of gravity, sunlight, oxygen, and water for me to exist.

Kind of the flip side of "We've all got it coming."

Thank you for articulating that, Dag. It's one of my biggest problems with the world today.

She's the answer to every struggling artist;s dream - developing her story on cheap paper napkins sucking down a perpetual cup of coffee.

*sigh*

Hey, at least she's not Bill Gates. [Wink]

My younger daughter - just turned 9 - finished the first four books in 2 weeks. I had to buy the fifth book for her for Christmas. She's on page 389 out of 870 pages just since Saturday morning. She tells me that when she's on page 435 she'll be exactly halfway through the book. So, the HP books are good for reading and math.
