I am such a geek:

The basic transformers were:

Autobots (the good guys - usually cars)
Decepticons (the bad guys, usually planes)

After all, we all know that planes are inherently evil, while cars...those are remarkable creations of endless beauty and endless worth. If only we were all like cars! And if only the evil prescence of planes was removed from our world!

Hey, c'mon. Soundwave was a boombox and Megatron was a laser pistol. Not all Decepticons were aircraft like Starscream.
