I'm a little surprised this hasn't been mentioned(or has it?), but there's a 6 minute preview out now for the new Extended Edition DVDs, and it's pretty awesome.

It's over at www.lordoftherings.net . I've already got these pre-ordered and December 14th can't come soon enough. [Smile]

Wow, extra 50 minutes in the EE. [Hail]

I can't wait for the extra Faramir scenes. His character was severely shortchanged in the theatrical release.

No...it hasn't been talked about yet.
I was going to bring it up but I forgot... [Blushing]

TOO FREAKING COOL!!!!!!!

*pant*pant*drool*

Can't wait can't wait can't wait can't wait...

Question...Minas Tirith... why do so many of the buildings and towers have so few windows? I mean, you don't notice right away because the grand total of windows is still quite large, but when you freeze frame or just look really well you'll see how few of them there are. Is it because the restraints of the model? Or is it historically acurate for a Constantinople-esque city?

Oh... I just remembered the towers of the capital of Scotland... these thousand year old buildings... six stories tall. Ancient apartment buildings in the old city near the fortress at the top of the mountain.

I guess I just answered my own question...there really should have been more windows in the Minas Tirith towers.

I think they were awsome, and wouldn't change a thing about them. Thet were built for war, and windows are a liability sometimes.

I can't wait! Heck, I'll probably have to accept this as one of my Christmas presents, so I may have to wait another extra 11 days. [Grumble]

I am pumped...but I didn't see anything mentioned about the Scouring of the Shire. Ah, well...at least they've got the Houses of Healing.

[Smile]

Finally, they've got my favourite scene in there! Sam and the star! [The Wave] [Party]

Are they going to re- release this to the theaters eventually? I can't see them not doing it, it would make them tons more money.

No Scouring was filmed. Jackson said he didn't like the Scouring of the Shire sequence in the books.

I3, I didn't know that. That makes me sad. I'll still get the DVD, of course, but...ah, oh well.

Ooo... think about the possibilities...

Super Trilogy Tuesday. Over 14 hours in a theatre (including breaks). Masses of weeping people, because being in a theatre watching those movies would be a very draining emotional experience. And everyone could smell rank from so long in the theatre and line preceding the showings!

I'd be there. And I know most of you would be too.

To a certain extent, Jackson has simplified the motivation of the Hobbits in that they are trying to save the Shire from all evil, and it would, in that sense, be a failure for the Shire to fall to any evil. It's a simplified expression of the Pastoral Ideal.

The book instead shows that evil can come to any place, though the hobbits' simple, goodhearted nature made it easier for them to throw off the yoke, as opposed to the more complex and self-serving "humans." This is a more complex expression of the Pastoral Ideal. I'd argue that this message is harder to convey in a coda to a very long film. Heck, critics were already complaining that there was too much after the "climax."

I3, I definitely see your point. I just really like the hidden strength of the hobbits that finally comes out full force (so that we know that it isn't just the four hobbits of the fellowship who are special and full of inner strength, but in fact, it's ALL hobbits. I like that message.). Anyway, like I said, it's not like I'm not going to buy the DVD. [Smile]
