As "yeah-right" as this sounds, I'm not interested in copying games etc. I freelance as a writer for Digital Media World magazine and get sent developer copies of upcoming games for review.

Unfortunately Microsoft has to date declined my invitation to send me a developer's kit. [Big Grin]

Does anyone know if modchips will allow dev copies to work?

However I still want to be able to use LIVE, can the current crop of modchips can be disabled to allow for LIVE?

They will not allow dev kits to work, Although they are pretty much identical to the normal XBOX they do have some major differences, a dev kit has a 'virtual' dvdrom at least the ones i've seen. They also have more ram, My brother was trying to get stuff all to fit down into 64 megs of ram for a game recently released.

The code you have, is most likely still a debug release, and to my knowledge wouldn't work on standard xbox, because it doesn't have enough ram, or the dev software to run it with. *or a dev kernel* If it was a release canidate release then it might work if you had a mod chip. If you really want to try i'd suggest looking at lik-sang.com They've got all the latest modchips and what not, you should be able to disable them, but not having one (modchip) I have no clue.

If I were you I'd talk to Digital Media World, they should hook you up with what you'll need, as i'm sure they've had to deal with this sort of thing before.

Trouble is, I'd have to fight the editor for one!

He's been onto both Sony and MS for a while with no luck. We're not a gaming mag per se... we're one of the largest film/sfx/post/3D mags around so we do a fair number of game articles, but it's more about the company that made it than the game.

Makes it hard to talk about the games tho...

Oh, and modchipping is legal here at the moment. I think.

Yeah, I just haven't had a reason to do it, my pc does all the multimedia stuff, and I can develop for pc / windows & linux.
