Half Price Books is doing it's 11th annual book to promote literacy. The contest info can be found at this link.

It's a book aimed at children under 8 yrs old. The stories are short (<300 words). Poems up to 50 lines. Illustrations -- well, read the FAQ for Illustrators.

This sounds like a pretty cool thing. No pay, but copies, credit at their stores and some free exposure.

DUE DATE: entries must be postmarked by 12/01/04...

PS: If someone already posted this news, please forgive my duplication of it. I didn't see it on Hatrack already, so I figured I was the first.

Go for it Thor. Which reminds me, do you have a rate sheet for prints of your artwork?

If Scott does not submit some of his children's poetry, I will be dismayed.

I love how they publish this book to help literacy organizations, that's so cool!

A week...

My big question.

Do they own it if we win?

Or do we retain ownership and collect a cash prize?

Thor-- you sell first publishing rights, and retain all other rights. So, after the item is published, ownership returns to you.

I have submitted a revised version of 'Song of the Rivelaunt' mostly because I didn't want to dismay TomD. [Smile]

I wasn't going to submit anything until I read up on their mission statement. It seems to be a cause worth supporting.

So there you go.

Wow! I saw this late - I wish I could do something.

I have some children's stuff, but none of it feels submittable to me. Maybe I'm just not that confident in this market. I'll give it some thought.

Thanks for bringing it up - as always, I'd love to see a hatracker win!

Is it supposed to be written so it can be read to children or so children can read it?

Or both?

*bump*

Both.

They've got a writer's FAQ on the website, by the way. . .

[Big Grin]

Well some people aren't smart enough to think of that, Scott.

[Razz]

EDIT: And I had definately already read that.

*sigh*

Bump...

Okay, nowhere does it say I have to live in America but nowhere does it give the option of me NOT living in America.

Do I enter everything as if I were an American? Can I enter? Does anyone know? If no one knows I'm going to anyway.
