That's right, folks. I need suggestions for names for a tree.

Long story short--I got Toretha a mini christmas tree as an early Christmas present. She loves plants and already has two (which she has named).

While we haven't *quite* figured the sex out, I figure that if we give it a Christmas-y sounding name, we'll be all right.

NAMES SHE HAS NIXED:
~Mayday~

You can always go with something traditional like Telperion or Laurelin. Or maybe his name is Oscar. Oscar is a wonderfully happy name, I think. My last suggestion is that you name him Pindar, after he of the odes. That's all the arboreal nomenclature I can come up with tonight. Hope that helps! [Smile]

What about Bell or Poinsettia? Or you could go with Natalya (means "born at christmas" in Russian). Personally, I like Noel. Or if you want it to be a guy you could call it Papa Noel (santa claus) [Smile]

I like Holly. If I ever have a daughter, her name will be Holly.

Well, if you figure out a first name, how about "Branch" for last name?

There's always Woody!

Well, Sopwith took my easy answer.

But how about Yggdrasil? Nothing better than having a miniature world tree in your backyard.

There is a huge cottonwood in the middle of our hometown that everyone calls "Big Bertha" -- it even has a sign.

But that wouldn't work for an evergreen. Hmmm... naming trees is harder than pets...

Oscar????? Jenny, isn't Jane's dog enough for you?! I don't even like Oscar Wilde.

And Anne Kate, Oscar is a happy name? What about Sesame Street?

And yeah, figured it out. Male, and Ronan.

*hugs mayday* thanks, sweetie

*bursts into tears*

You don't like Oscar Wilde? That's right, just invalidate my life, why don't you?

*runs away sobbing helplessly*

Jen

(How can you not like Oscar Wilde? He wrote The Importance of Being Earnest and was friends with Robbie Ross and Ada Leverson.

I like his writings. They're lovely and great. I just don't like him very much.

WHICH DOESN"T MEAN ITS NOT WORTHWHILE TO RESEARCH HIM! It just means I don't think much of him.

Posted by Fyfe (Member # 937) on :

You can make excuses all you want. I understand. I just won't write a biography of him then. I'll just--*chokes back tears*--I'll just do one of someone else. My only goal in life is to please my dearest sister.

*sniff*

Well, that completely erases the fact that he was a paedophile, then.

A great guy, indeed.

Eblis O'Shaughnessy.

Best random name ever.

I would have thought that Human would be the obvious answer.

Wouldn't it be cool to have A Tree Named Rose?

Posted by sarcasticmuppet (Member # 5035) on :

a rose by any other name would still smell as piney...

*likes Annie's suggestion the best*

Human (the poster) is one of the best friends I have. I positively refuse to name any pet, plant or anything else after a friend.

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

Even a friend in the third life?

Last I checked, the Human I know is still on two legs. but yes, even a friend in the third life. And Russell's right. It's already named.

Oscar is a name of great honor, of course! Heed not her base calumny against the worthy name of Oscar, Miss Fyfe! There are those who know the truth!

[Hail] Oscar

JTK: [Laugh] That is awesome. For now, you're 1337

Rowan... I like that. Good name.

Come on, guys, gimme more! If I have a baby 'round Christmas, I'll consider this thread. [Smile]

I also have an addition: Trinity. It's also Bernard's half-sister's name

Posted by Toretha (Member # 2233) on :

Anne Kate, what is the truth about Oscar Wilde?

Mayday, not Rowan. Ronan

Posted by MaydayDesiax (Member # 5012) on :

My apologies, Ronan. That's a good one too.

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

I think the tree should have a title too.

Like Ronan the Ringbearer.

or

Ronan the limber.

Or maybe it should be a last name:

Ronan Mainmast.

Ronan Mulchmuncher

Of course, your tree could join a group:

The Board of Ronan

Another question...

What's the proper species names for Ents?
Homo Sapliens?
