And no, I am not posting them.

Over the summer while we were putting in my new sidewalk my Mom grabbed my camera to take some pictures. Not until I plugged in my camera did I realize she had taken one of me from behind while I was leaning forward over the tile saw. The pictures are coming up on my computer, and all the sudden there is a close-up of my rear end, covered in mud. (My shorts were covered in mud, get your mind out of the gutter.)

So yesterday Mom & Dad came over to loan me the super-tall ladder so I can clean out the bird's nest from the peak of my roof and fix the soffit so they don't come back next year. I climb up, and notice Mom's standing at the back of the yard taking pictures. Dad, of course, is shaking the ladder.

She mails me the pics tonight... sure enough, butt shots.

Perhaps you just inherited your fathers butt? Have you ever compared your butt to either of your parent's rear end?

I decidedly take after my mother's side of the family. Nice theory, though!

It's in the same vein as all those naked baby on the fuzzy rug pictures. Anything a parent can do to embarrass their children is a delight. [Razz]

I really have no idea what's behind it.

Ahh..will..not..make..this..a..pun..thread.. [Angst]

My dad happened to be in a secondhand bookstore in Nelson while we were in NZ, and he happened to be leafing through a hardcover book of pictures of Canterbury. He happened to see a picture of his mum, bending over to groom dogs.

I thought it was cool -- and quite an astonishing coincidence -- that he happened to see a random picture of his mum in a random book at a random bookstore in a random town. Too bad it was mostly of her bum...

I'm sure your mom is thinking of the future generations - she wants a photo record for posteriority. [Smile]

Okay - this may be tricky to explain ... my mother-in-law (Pauline) told me that her mother-in-law's sister's husband took pictures of her butt. It was something along the lines of the family is visiting Grandma's house and Grandma's sister and her husband are there. When they arrive, Pauline opens the back car door and starts getting the boys out of the car. Grandma's b-i-l takes pictures of Pauline's butt while she's not looking.

Anyway, I'm trying to say that it's not an isolated phenomenom. Or something.

So are your family photo albums mostly ass shots ElJay?

Sounds like your mom would fit in well with the folks at the recent Hatrack Unplugged camping expedition.

::thinks that if ElJay's family sends out those Christmas cards that are a family photo, their cards probably stand out from most of the others that pass through the mail::

So far as I've noticed, this is an isolated phemonenon related to me and home improvement. Our photo albums are quite normal, and we don't normally send out picture Christmas cards...

Although one year Mom took a picture of all three kids standing in front of the Christmas tree, and then made us all turn around for another one because we all had hair approximently the same length (long) and she thought it looked cool. Then on the next year's Christmas letter she put the facing-forward pic on the bottom of the front and lined up the facing-backward pic so it was in the same place when you flipped the page. But I do not believe butts were included in the pics.

*bump* 'Cause I'm about to call Mom, and she always checks Hatrack when I do and I don't want her to miss this.

Hi Mrs. Williams.

[Wave]

Feel free to butt into the discussion anytime.

She prefers to be called "Pat."

::stifles urge to compose sentence with "Pat" and "butt" in it::

I have lots of embarrassing pictures of my boys, though I don't take pictures of their butts.

My favorite is the picture of Robert(at six months of age) in a bee costume. I'm gonna use it on birthday party invites when he's old enough to be well and truly emabrrassed by it. [Big Grin]

17 is the perfect age for that, Olivetta...

And I thought all the embarrassing stuff my parents did was because they were clueless, not because they were trying to embarrass me.

Shows what you know.

I think that 14 would be the best age for embarassing them with that bee picture. by 17 I'd have learned enough to kind of roll with it and make a joke of it. At 14 I'd have been truly mortified.

You know, some cultures believe that if someone takes your picture, they are stealing your soul. I'm not sure what a butt pic has to do with that, but the implications are rather ominous.

Hi Mrs. Eljay's Mom!

I would change the above to "Pat,"
but I don't want to be anal.

Eeek! Mom stole my butt! I'll never sit down again! Wait. I am sitting down. Something must not be right here.

Icarus: You did that just for the set-up. [Razz]

Goat, I don't appreciate that crack at all.

Posted by kaioshin00 (Member # 3740) on :

I guess it all depends on how your parents rear you.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Yeah, it was kinda asinine... [Big Grin]

So, Pat....how about posting some of those pics? You heard what she said...parents only take those pics to embarrass their children.

Where better to do that than here?

[Razz]

She doesn't have the muddy one, since it was on my camera. [Smile] The ladder ones, while not terribly flattering, are no where near as bad.

Besides, I think she knows better... I have pictures, too.

Kwea, you misspelled embarrass. [Laugh]

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

I also misspelled assinine, but we all got the picture...

Or we still hope to, anyway. [Big Grin]

I like firefox, but the spellcheck function isn't very good...lol...
