Okay, have at it. What are the stupidest rationales you heard today, either in line at the polls, or on talk radio, or whatever?

I have two:

One guy voted for Kerry because he figured Kerry would legalize gay marriages. This guy says he is sick and tired of hearing about gays wanting to get married, and if Kerry gets elected he'll legalize it and it'll all be over and he doesn't have to listen to it anymore. When questioned whether he supported gay marriage the guy said no, he doesn't, but just wants to stop hearing about it, and thinks Kerry getting elected will "get that issue off my tv set so I don't have to listen to it anymore."

The second one said she didn't know what man to vote for because she didn't like either one of them so she decided to vote for Bush because she liked Laura and "that ketchup woman is just too rich and too mean - I don't trust her."

My mother is voting for Bush because she used to be Catholic and doesn't like Catholics. Christy's mom is voting for Bush because he'll keep, and I quote, "those awful Palestinian suicide bombers out of our airports." Christy's dad is at least voting for Bush because he has $500K in stocks and is hoping for a further reduction in the capital gains tax, which is at least a less stupid reason.

The stupidist reason I can think of, no matter whichy candidate is voted for, is "Because my family has always voted for X party".

I voted Gregoire for Governor of Washington because I couldn't abide by the fact that the republican candidate's first name was Dino.

romany, I agree. My grandmother believes that you should always vote democrat because "the democrats saved us from the depression."

I've tried to explain many times, that people today aren't the same ones that ran back then. It does no good.

However, I can't complain about her vote because she isn't now and never has been registered. She's one that likes to tell everyone else what to do and won't put her own money where her mouth is.

My grandmother voted for Bush because she wouldn't be able to bear listening to my grandfather rant about "those damn liberals scumbags" for four years.

It wasn't a reason to vote, but at the polls yesterday, a woman said that the new development I'm in had caused flooding in her neighborhood because it had blocked the underground river. [Roll Eyes]

The lady that cut my hair yesterday told me she's voting for Bush specifically because, in her opinion, Mrs. Kerry is a certifiable nut case.

*considers switching hairstylists - with that kind of reasoning she may decide one day that I'd look better bald*

One of my co-workers voted for Bush because, "I can't stand the thought of having to look at that ketchup woman's hair for the next four years."

I voted for Robert Frost for one of the obscure judicial seats because I like his poetry.

Gah, I cannot styand it when people who complain don't vote. If you did vote, complain all you want. If you didn't ( OK, assuming you were eligible) please don't complain.

Not a reason to vote in this election, but my boyfriend's roommate informed me quite seriously that he thought being the coach of the Chicago football team was perfectly good qualification for running for public office.

One woman I talked to was voting for Kerry cuz she didn't like Bush invoking God. Then Kerry emphasized his faith for the last 2 weeks of the campaign.

[rantgent]I was really mad when I talked to my mom yesterday about her efforts to try to vote. At the last minute they moved her polling place from one church down the street to another church down the street. The second church has about 10 parking spaces and the road it is on is under construction (making it difficult to park on the road). The lines were, expectedly, long, but they had them snaking around through the 2 handicapped spots. So, my mother could not park in the handicapped spots, nor could she even find another place to park close enough that she could walk (she's not in a wheelchair or anything, but has pretty severe arthritis in her back and hips, so walking is difficult). Even if she could have walked there, she would have then had to stand outside for more than an hour (something I doubt she'd be able to do) in the sun (she has a severe sun allergy). Had her polling place remained at the first church, parking would not have been a problem and they have shaded areas where you can sit. She went past 3 different times hoping for a shorter line and a place to park, but to no avail. So, she wasn't able to vote. To make it worse, she'd been mailed an early ballot, but they'd spelled her name wrong on it. [Mad] [/rantgent]

Pix, yeah, but no one believed him. [Smile]

Audeo, that's a terrible reason to have picked Gregiore. [Razz] [Smile] And look at how that race is turning out. I heard a few minutes ago that there is only a 32 vote spread right now between them. Not sure who was ahead. Earlier this morning, Rossi was ahead by 900 votes with 91% of precincts reporting. We're not going to know who our next governor will be for some time yet, I think.
