Just so you know...

quote:

For more than an hour Wednesday night, the moon will be covered entirely by Earth's shadow and resemble a glowing pumpkin.

The eclipse will be visible anywhere in the USA where clouds don't hide the moon.

Unfortunately, says Buzz Bernad of The Weather Channel, clouds are likely to block, or at least partly block the view over most of the USA.

Best chances of a good view will be in northeast New York, most of New England, along the Gulf Coast of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, and over much of Washington State and northwest Oregon, where the forecast is for clear skies.

All times are eastern daylight.

Partial eclipse begins: 9:14 p.m.
Total eclipse begins 10:23 p.m
Total eclipse ends 11:45 p.m.
Partial eclipse ends 12:54 a.m. Thursday

In other time zones: Add 1 hour for CT, 2 hours of MT, and 3 hours for PT.

I know it's near Halloween time, but couldn't they come up with a better simile than "a glowing pumpkin"?

That's a great way to spend your Wednesday night and get more for your mooney.

I wonder if I'll be able to see it from my window.

What Teshi said.

Stupid nature.

[Frown] I haven't gotten enough sleep for the last 4 nights in a row. I just don't think I can do that. But maybe my baby will wake up hungry in the night.

Still clear here in Gainesville! The moon entered the penumbra half an hour ago but I can't yet see any shadowing. There's possibly just a hint of assymetry about the disk, which on this night of the full moon would not be there were it not for the eclipse.

Sky and Telescope estimates that in another 10 minutes or so the first shading will be visible. Partial eclipse starts in 45 minutes! [Smile]

And yay, boo yeah, hip hip hooray for BunnV's triumphant return to hatrack! [Hail] [Hat] [Group Hug]

I have clear skies... well, enough so I have a clear view of the moon.
I have almost half a moon in shadow.
I have two children who want to stay up so they can keep looking at it... on a school night.

I have a headache. [Roll Eyes]

The eclipse is awesome. It was so freaky to walk through campus and have everyone standing around staring up in the same direction.

Very cool eclipse tonight...thanks again for mentioning it to us!

JenniK and I, along with her mom, went out and saw it for a while...it is as clear as can be around NE tonight!

Perfect viewing weather.

it was gorgeous here. Rarely have I seen such nice weather on a day when there's soemthing interesting happening. And it was cloudy right up until about 930, too. Like, cloudy like it has been for the past five days. And then it cleared right up. Proof there IS a God.
