Looks like the Genesis crash was caused by a fairly simple, easily catchable mistake. The sensors that were supposed to initiate the parachute release were installed in the wrong orientation.

::Sigh::

Don't I remember that there is another mission already launched that employs this same technology for its capsule's return to Earth? Anyway we can check out that mission's schematics and determine ahead of time whether it will fail in this same way.

Heh--apparently I missed the second to last paragraph of the article, which explictly states that it would seem that the Stardust mission does *not* suffer from this same flaw.
