So Lindsay and I got tickets to a free taping of BLUE COLLAR TV (they are filming every thursday in october, here in athens). we call my brother-in-law and invite him and his friend to join us as he really digs the show. neither lindsay and i have really seen it. The crowd was in stitches during the time we were there (we left early). seriously people were doubled over with laughter at stuff that was just lost on me.

am i missing something? explain...

As bad as Blue Collar TV is, I've seen people laugh at worse.

Nope, unlike most people in the audience, your not missing teeth or brain cells.

i beg to differ. i can count my braincells on two hands. it didnt used to be like that. i used to have to use my toes. so yes i am missing some...

It's getting to be like SNL is now (vice how it used to be). Some of the skits are good, but most are bad. These guys really ought to stick with standup comedy. I thought Jeff Foxworthy learned his lesson after his own show a few years ago flopped.

Wasn't Foxworthy's old show a sitcom though? At least he's doing something relatively similar to stand-up. I must say however, that sketch comedy a la SNL has never really appealed to me. There are a few that I've enjoyed, but all in all, I usually just don't get it either.

I watched about 10 minutes of the first episode of this, and haven't been tempted to give it a second try. Standup and sketch comedy are two very different beasts, and being good at one doesn't guarantee you're going to be good at the other.

Jeff Foxworthy's existence and continued success gives me every hope that I shall some day rule you all with an iron fist.

I've seen about 15 minutes of it. If I'm ever flipping channels and it's on, I might give it another try, maybe not.

I've seen one skit, and it made me laugh. But the thing was, it went against everything I heard was great about the stand-up. I mean, it was raunchy/crude. Amazing how fast they guys sold out...

Sometimes it's kind of funny.. Other times it's sort of @_@

Hey, Syn, have you ever seen Firefly? I know you watch a fair amount of TV, and don't care for most of what's on, but I'll bet you'd enjoy that one. Of course, I'm not aware of any channels that are airing it these days, but you could always rent it.

Yeah. Anybody here old enough to remember "Hee Haw"?

I never even did see t hat show. Lot's of people say it's good too.
I care what's on. I just get stupid and watch annoying stuff just to irratate myself.

Barely. I remember watching a few episodes. Of course I remember watching Captain Kangaroo too. Which, yes, it was newer than Hee Haw, but that was still a while ago.

I've seen one episode of it. I liked a few of the skits, but most of them were completely unfunny. The same could be said about MadTV.

I like SNL sometimes - more often than MadTV or Blue Collar TV - but there are still quite a few skits I just don't get. I think the only sketch comedy series I've seen and consistently liked was Monty Python's Flying Circus.

That is why there is MST3000. The best comedy show on Earth (besides the Red Green Show of course)

Is MST3k considered sketch comedy? [Confused]

no, but it's a heck of a lot better than everything else.
oh, almost forgot. Improv as in Who's Line is it Anyway. Although I liked the British Host a lot more than Drew.

The most consistently funny sketch comedy shows I've seen are:

Monty Python
Kids in the Hall
Vacant Lot

Vacant Lot was really short lived, which was a shame, because it was pretty damned good. Well, as I recall, anyway. I reserve the right to be horrified at my earlier self's complete lack of taste if I ever catch reruns of it and it sucks.

Upright Citizens Brigade was funny as hell! how could any of you overlooked this one?

I saw promos for it at the gym and thought it looked promising, but didn't have cable at the time. Is it still on the air, either in repeats or with new shows?

My dad just went to lunch yesterday to see the friars club roast of Donald Trump.
