Google News is saying there has been a second earthquake, or maybe a "severe aftershock" in central California again today.

But CNN, Fox and ABCNews web sites don't mention it.

So California people -- yay or nay?

My boss is out there right now (central CA) for a meeting. I haven't heard from him.....

At least one of them was supposed to have been felt as far south as Santa Ana, but I didn't notice even the slightest shaking.

According to the Southern California Earthquake Center, there was a 5.0 around noon today and a 6.0 on Tuesday around Parkfield, CA, and a 5.0 yesterday near Arvin, CA.

I was wondering whether or not you felt it, Saxy.

Nothing up here. I had to find it on the news like everyone else.

But Monterey is... what? Almost 200 miles away. And the San Andreas veers off the coast at San Francisco.

A six. I'd thought that I would have felt that....

Actually, these days I'm in Orange County. I just grew up on the Monterey Peninsula. Speaking of which, I should call my mom and ask if they felt it there.

Mt. St. Helen's is rumbling, but she hasn't spewed anything yet . . . (waits with great interest)

They now say that there is a 70 percent chance that it will blow

That annoys me. Ignorance of the press...

Aircraft engines don't stall. Stalling is when a plane has no lift [under the wings], it has nothing to do with the engines.

Shan - Oh, I know!

I heard from one of our local meteorologists that if she blows again the majority of ash will come our direction in Portland. After which I said, "Frikkin' cool!"

A person two degrees of separation from me lives right next to St. Helens, and he said he's had an insane amount of deer run through his yard, fleeing. When the animals flee, summin's amiss.

How is it that natural disasters are simultaneously terrible and cool?

Somehow the animals are the first to know.

It's like I was saying to Jamie BEFORE the earthquake- "hurricane and volcano's? All they need now are earthquakes and tidal waves and they'll have the four corners of the elemental disasters covered."

Looks like Saxon75 has it just about right.

The Tuesday morning Parkfield quake (6.0) was a real doozy. I'm probably about 100 miles from there, and felt it quite strongly. In fact, I felt it a lot more strongly than the 6.5 they had in Paso Robles last December, which did much more damage. This one on Tuesday felt like it was never going to stop - they say it lasted for fifteen or twenty seconds, but it seemed a lot longer than that.

On the good side, I haven't felt any of the aftershocks, and didn't feel the Arvin quake at all, which is probably about the same distance from me, maybe just a bit farther, but in another direction. I just don't like earthquakes that much, and I'm just as happy when I don't feel them. [Angst]

Wow, bad call on my part. Should have known, I have lost all respect for myself as an aviation enthusiast. Thank you though for pointing that out. [Wall Bash]
