Here is what I did for today's bonehead math exercise (I need those every once in awhile):

French radio must play at least 40% of their music in French. It made me wonder what percent of my music was in various languages. I only used the music on my iTunes playlist - heaven knows my CD collection would be a far more intensive math exercise. My rules were: each song got one tally mark, unless the song was in more than one language, in which case it got one tally mark in each language. (I figure it's ok to weight them thus and give them props for being bilingual. It didn't happen too often anyway)

The results are as follows, for a total of 491 songs:

English - 241 songs, 49.1%
French - 79 songs, 16.1%
Instrumental - 66 songs, 13.4%
Spanish - 50 songs, 10.2%
Arabic - 14 songs, 2.9%
Unknown Scandinavian - 8 songs, 1.6%
Hindi - 4 songs, .8%
Irish - 4 songs, .8%
Portuguese - 4 songs, .8%
Turkish - 4 songs, .8%
Swedish - 3 songs, .6%
German - 2 songs, .4%
Greek - 2 songs, .4%
Swahili - 2 songs, .4%
Tibetan - 2 songs, .4%
Breton - 1 song, .2%
Finnish - 1 song, .2%
Hopi - 1 song, .2%
Occitan - 1 song, .2%
Unknown African (Mali - supposed French creole)) - 1 song, .2%
Unknown Indian - 1 song, .2%

Oh, the reason it's a bonehead math exercise is because I did it all with pencil and paper. I think it's pretty good for me.

Hmm, not very well. Only Sting singing a few Spanish and French tunes, and some French in some Buffett tunes would save me from being 100% English.
