I have scandalized the woment of Hatrack before for my lack of appropriate footwear, since Steve actually owns more shoes than I do.
However I'm now ahead of him in one important category. Before we were tied at two pairs each. Now I have one more pair of steel toed shoes than he does. And my company even picked up most of the tab.
I'm easy to make happy. Steel toed shoes will do it every time.

Oooooh! Are they like the boot type or tennis shoe type or what? I got some really nice boot style ones from Red Wing that were supposed to be such a good fit but they're excruciatingly painful to me. Girls work in factories a lot! Probably 40% of the workers in paper mills are women! Why so few choices for them in safety shoes?

Ah, steel toes, good stuff. I'm wearing mine right now, because I thought I might be going out to a site today. But they look as though they could be hiking boots so I'm comfortable wearing them pretty much anywhere.

Actually we have a shoemobile that comes to our company twice a year. I have wide feet so I've never had any problems with men's sizes. But, there were loads of womens shoes as well. Many of them are so well disguised that you'd never know they were steel toed just looking at them.

Oddly enough, when I worked at the Rouge Steel Company I had to wear these special armoured boots with this huge plate of steel for the toe and over my foot itself. But they were the most comfortable boots/shoes I've EVER had. Ahhhh... so nice...
Of course they were $90 and I melted them two weeks after I bought them... *sigh* Damn you 5000 degree metal!

You guys already know I'm weird but I've been wearing steel toed shoes for years long before I decided to become an engineer or ever was required to have them on the job.
Reason why: I like to be able to wiggle my toes in my shoes and they actually allow enough room. Also you'd be surprised how many things can possibly land on your toes in a shop environment.
This is the shoe I actually got. Turns out they are cheaper online, but I only had to pay $14 and my company picked up the rest of the tab.
They remind me more of a skate shoe. I decided not to go with an actual sneaker because the nylon just doesn't wear as well as the leather. I've already got actual boots with a year or two of life in them.

Farmgirl, there is a place here called Value City where you can get standard steel toes like Wolverines and Cats that are ANSI approved for about $50. There's always a few women's too, but their selection varies with closeouts from other places.
I get my New Balances there for around $45. You can get decent name brand sneakers for around $35 if you aren't as picky.

lol, Steve made me buy dress pumps because I didn't have any that were wearable. So I bought four pairs in a weekend to get it over with. While they are comfortable, I think I've worn one pair twice and that's it.
So that's four. Then my old beat up yardwork steel toe boots with no tread. 5 my newer not-so-beat-up-wear-to-work steel toe boots. 6 One really worn out pair of new balance tennis shoes that are only worn for painting. I don't know if they should count. (6.5?) Then a somewhat newer but still thrashed pair of newbalances for dog poo pickup. 7.5 A pair of airwalks that were never the same after they went through the washing machine but are wearable for dog poo pickup or if I can't find anything else. 8.5 My current new balances that are rapidly wearing out, and when they get demoted down to dog poo the painting shoes get pitched. 9.5. Then the new steel toed shoes 10.5.
If slippers count I have a pair of slip on hush puppy clogs and a pair of Uggs. I think I have a pair of slightly chunky brown sandals that I never wear but are floating around the bottom of my closet. I still haven't forgiven Jake for eating my Tevas. That brings me to 13.5. Which is only a little more than half my age.
Steve's got 2 pairs of steel toes, I think four or five pairs of nicer dressish shoes for work, and then like 4 or 5 pairs of tennis shoes of varying states of wear. He's got more tennish shoes that are actually nice than I do, because I tend to wear a pair constantly til its basically worn out and only good for dog poo duty. Then hes got this pair of adidas sandals that he wears constantly around the house, and a pair of slippers. So we are pretty close to even.

My mother still calls them thongs. I used to refer to them that way. I stopped calling them that a couple of years ago. All three children gave me a look of complete horror when I asked my mom, their angelic grandmother, if she had any thongs I could borrow.

oh my. I don't think I could live if I had 40 pairs of shoes. It would drive me crazy. If you go down to the shoes I actually wear on a regular basis. I think I'm at maybe five.
New Balance Tennis Shoes- nearly every day (I think these new steel toed shoes may take their place) Uggs- when my feet get cold or I don't feel good. Hush Puppy slipper-clogs- random times when I'd otherwise be barefoot but really should wear something Steel Toed Boots- when I know I'm going to be out in the shop at work or when it's raining or snowing Dog poo shoes- self explanatory, but half the time I forget to put them on, and end up wearing the good NewBalances or the Hush Puppies.

My husband won't wear steel toes even though he works with flagstone, block, and jackhammers. He hates them, I guess. It's crazy but whatever.
IMO Workman's Comp should be lower if you get hurt while not wearing appropriate footwear.
Oh, and I have seven pairs of shoes not including my ugly, ratty, embarrassing old houseshoes and some orange pumps I use with my Princess Daisy costume. In other words, shoes I actually wear. Here's what I have. Before I begin, I'll go on the record of stating that all of my shoes have between two and four inches of heel, except my light-blue Sketchers. (The weirdest part of this is that I honestly never noticed a theme in my shoe preferences.)
1. Aforementioned Sketchers 2. Gun-metal colored combat boots. These are probably not actually functional in a boot sense. 3. Knee-high black leather boots. I wear these five or six days out of seven. 4. Red suede calf boots. 5. Black ankle-high "dressy" boots...dressy only because the back is cut away and a strap is there instead. 6. Black strappy high heels. Functional in almost no sense. 7. Red strappy high heels.
I wonder if Bob has a "Big Book of Shoes". I think I need this analyzed.
Oh, and I would probably have as many shoes as my age if it wasn't for two things:
1. I will NOT wear uncomfy shoes. 2. I pathologically throw anything I have used in six months away.

Jeez. My favorites are the black strappy heels - it's a low heel, they look nice with work clothes, dresses, and jeans, and they are so comfortable I walked all around San Francisco in them one time and my feet never hurt. If I could only save one pair of shoes in a fire, it would be that one.

Even in the summer...I just unzip them in the hot car.

I don't know how many shoes I have, I haven't counted since I moved. And I threw out/gave away a bunch of shoes then. I've probably got around 30 pairs. The sad part is that since I've been in Texas, I've worn pretty much just worn sneakers or flipflops, with the occasional low-heeled sandal thrown in. I haven't even touched my 3-inch heels...

I'm really sad that we didn't get better pictures. Jes' costume was unbelievable. He's the only guy tall and skinny enough to pull off a convincing Waluigi.
My costume was really good, too, but it wouldn't have been possible to get the ten inch waist that she has right below her boobs.

The number of shoes I have is very close to my age, but then my age is low...and yet I'm always being yelled at that I have enough shoes. Half of them don't fit anymore though anyway. I should throw them out, but I just can't bear to did it. I suppose I could give them to Farmgirl, but she probably wouldn't wear them anyway. She doesn't seem to like the shoes that I wear that much. Especially my flip flops. She can't stand to wear flip flops and I love them. I would buy a million pairs of them if I could. At the present, I only have two pairs of flip flops, so I'm doing pretty good.
And I'm hurt that my mother would rather go shoe shopping in Chicago with AJ than shoe shopping with me! Especially since I have better taste than she does (no kidding, she either takes a friend of hers or me whenever she's shopping for herself for the advice, so she doesn't pick out something that is completely wrong for her. And she knows shopping at all without me is not allowed! Ah, well, I can just have her buy me some cute flip flops or something while she's up there. You can never have too many shoes. Or clothes, for that matter.

Okay, I counted.
I have, um, 61 pairs of easily accessable footwear. (i.e., not counting the ones in the storage bin in the basement that I probably will throw out if I ever get around to it.) That includes shoes, boots, and slippers, and a pair of beach shoes. Only one pair still has the tags on. I'm feeling a little embarressed here, especially since there's 2 or 3 pairs that I wear almost all the time. But that's because it's summer, and I wear sandles all summer. When it starts getting colder I'll start wearing boots and closed shoes more often, and the variety will increase.
Still, I will point out that I'm one pair short of the number being twice my age. That's gotta count for something, right? Maybe I'll make a point of wearing a different pair of shoes each day in October...

I have on the order of 10^2 shoes. I like to go barefoot so really don't regularly wear more than 5 or 6 pair. But I have to have the others for certain things. Also some are old and worn out and need to be tossed out but I just am fond of them so I keep them forever.

Steel cap boots, gumboots, riding boots. My old Vans that I wear outside for chores and such, and also another pair of old Gallas for same purpose. Not sure why I need two pairs, I never got around to throwing one out I guess. One pair of strappy black heels, one pair of lower, more comfy black heels. My sexy black boots (sooo comfy). New Balance running shoes, Nike track spikes. Black work shoes. Jandals. Aquasocks.

They're flexible and soft, but tough enough that glass/rocks/shells won't cut your feet. I wear them for windsurfing, kayaking, and sailing. Not always, cos I like going barefoot, but they give you better grip than wet feet (especially when sailing) and they are comfortable.

Today is my first day of trying to wear a different pair of shoes every weekday until I run out of work-appropriate shoes. Brown woven-leather Clark sandles. Tomorrow I think will be the lavender suede heels with the little bows. (Work-appropriate means less-than 5" heel and lower-than knee high if boots. Except for my silver vinyl boots, as they're kinda part of a halloween costume, and just aren't work-appropriate any way you slice it.)
Edit: Oh, and tennis shoes aren't work appropriate either, so they won't be part of the game. Knocks out another 4 or 5 pairs from the count.

BTW -- when I went up to Chicago, and visited BannaOJ and Goody, I DID end up buying myself a new pair of shoes. Because I had the luxury of Friday afternoon to just hang out and look around and shop by myself.
I had gone to Glen Ellyn to purchase a book at their quaint little downtown, and saw a shoe store nearby -- a real shoe store where a salesperson helps you find the best fit and puts them on your feet and everything! (you can tell I'm used to shopping at Target or K-Mart). And I bought myself a new pair of casual shoes for work. More $$$ than I would usually pay, but I'm sure they will last much longer. And I like them! The are comfortable!

btw I barely take my new steel toed shoes off my feet.
I took my backup old nearly worn out pair of Uggs to the Hatrack campout where they served honorably along with the steel toes.

It's because of work (dress up), church (dress up), working out (sports shoes), and fun (my brown fake skechers, which I love). When I live in a place with seasons, it means even more shoes because most of the above won't work in snow.

I'm feeling a little embarressed here, especially since there's 2 or 3 pairs that I wear almost all the time. But that's because it's summer, and I wear sandles all summer.
