Dog drives off as owner watches hockey
WHITEHORSE, Yukon Territory (AP) — An exuberant dog left in a truck while the owner watched Canada win the World Cup of Hockey managed to throw the vehicle into gear and coast down a city hill.

A man out for a walk called police after seeing the vehicle coast by with a black Labrador retriever behind the wheel.

Police arrived to find the truck in the middle of a road, blocking traffic, with the dog still at the wheel. No one was injured and there was no damage.

Going door to door, police managed to track down the owner.

"Subsequent investigation indicates that the dog was celebrating the Canadian victory in the world hockey game and knocked the truck into gear, causing it to roll down the hill," Whitehorse Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Wednesday in a firmly tongue-in-cheek news release.

"No word yet on how the dog is doing studying the rules for negotiating the new traffic circle."

That's doggone funny.

my nephew did much the same stunt when he was five - got the car out of park and it went backwards down a hill until it went over an embankment and hit a building. He wasn't hurt, the building wasn't too much damaged, but the car trunk never closed all the way again.

He is the type that needs lots of supervision. [Frown]

So, lately a dog has not only shot someone, but another dog has driven off in a car. I think it's a revolt - I really do.

And he wasn't arrested for this?

I thought the owner was at a game? And why didn't they just follow the LICENSE PLATE?

Probably cuz the police didn't find the truck near the owner's registration address. It's a pretty safe assumption that the truck just rolled downhill a bit: ie the dog didn't drive the truck a long distance on a complex route.

And unless the truck's windows are left closed on a really hot day, leaving a dog unattended in a vehicle is usually quite legal.

Anyways, you have to make exceptions to the law for a tme like the world cup of hockey!
