I'm the same way. I've watched the Daily Show since 2000, but in the last few months I've found that I would rather watch TNG re-runs than the Daily Show.

I get that they're not a real news show, so they don't have to be "fair and balanced," but I get sooo tired of the liberal swing. Sure, they take shots at the democrats, too, but they're just jokes. With the republicans, they make the same jokes, but in such a way that they're saying yeah, we really believe this... but we don't really mean it when we say things about the democrats.
It's a free country. They can do that. I don't have to watch it.

That mirrors my feelings. Yes, they joke against both sides, but jokes against Kerry are along the lines of "This guy sounds really boring" and the jokes against Bush along the lines of "This man is a liar and you'd have to be evil or stupid to support him."
To be frank, the jokes against Bush stopped being funny. In fact they stopped being jokes, even though they are still told in joke format.

Well, part of the problem may be that Bush does a lot of stuff that makes for good jokes and political satire, while Kerry is just, well, boring.
I remember when I was at UVA (2003 or so) some of Daily Show cast came to a speaker series about humor in American politics. I remember they attributed their show's success to the fact they didn't have an agenda, in contrast to political programs on the major networks and the radio. Their goal, they said, was just to be funny - and that's why people liked it.

I don't know, I've heard some pretty funny pot shots at John Kerry. Jon Stewart was on the Today show commenting on the Democratic national convention, and had some pretty harsh comments on the emphasis on Vietnam.

John Stewart replied to this criticism of the Daily Show...who else do they make fun of? They DO make a ton of jokes at Kerry's expense. But the fact of the matter is, comedians make fun of the the establishment, the current news, and those in power...which, minus a few random states, is entirely Republican both in offices (President, both hosues of Congress, most of the Judicial, most governors, etc.) and in policies (War on Terrorism being the forefront). So sure, much of the jokes are going to be about Republicans and as head office holder, Bush will get the brunt of them. If you watched it during the week of and week after the Democratic Convention, you saw TONS of jokes at Democratic expense. They made fun of Kerry the night after he was on with their own Swift-boat style ad questioning...was he REALLY on the Daily Show...? Sure, it is very politically charged but that is what good comedy always should be. Hell, Rush Limbaugh (who calls himself an entertainer) still mines the Bill Clinton trough daily even though the guy has been out of office four years now. So I think comedians can still poke fun at those IN office. They did the same with Clinton in power and at Gore when he was running and so on.
I suppose they could just make fun of...er...Kucinich some more, but those jokes grow old. The news of the day is politics and war and that is what they focus on.

You did have to download something. The movies. Just because they displayed in your browser doesn't make them not downloaded. The words you're reading right now were downloaded, though not in the sense most people mean, but the movies are a standalone binary file, which is the sense most people mean for downloaded.

The first clip was funny, but the second is wrong. I am all for Bush losing in the coming election, but twisting his words like that isn't nice. People may actually believe that he said those things. It's humiliating to us at citizens that he doesn't necessarily say the right things, so why should we humiliate ourselves more so?
I think Bush is a very decent person. The presidency just isn't the right job for him.

I agree totally WW. I knew the first time I saw that it was a fake. If I had thoguht it was real I definetly would have posted it in a more serious thread. Not one that has the word Comedy in the title.

I thought it was pretty funny. And well edited to boot. Question, was the Comedy Central one above actually on air? I thought I caught all the Republican Convention episodes but don't remember that movie. I remember the one they did for Kerry but not Bush.

Ummm... WW, Bush DID say the things on the video clips if you are refering to the second clip.... heck, all the clips with him speaking ARE him saying those things.

Thank you Little Doctor. And BookWrym, yes, Bush did say those words, but not in the order they were presented in the clips (and by second clip i meant Little Doctor's 2nd clip/ thirs clip in total).
I don't want Bush to win as much most other people, but why make him seem worse with lies, when we can just use to truth?

I'm guessing that 'lies' are more damaging and people want to believe the worst in each other. Take a look at Bush and what he says about Kerry. Or most any other Republican. (And I'm including Zell Miller in that bunch) They say Kerry is against our troops and cite the example of him voting 'against' certain weapon platforms. Remember Miller haranguing Kerry about the B1/B2 bomber? The Apache Helocopter? But if you LOOK at what Kerry voted AGAINST, those statement aren't TRUE. They also turn a blind eye when it comes to their own. For example, Cheney, when he was SecDef, testified before CONGRESS that those weapon platforms were not needed.
Or better yet, Bush says Kerry is going to "raise your taxes to pay for HIS 2 trillion dollar plan" He says Kerry doesn't say HOW he will finance it. Does Bush tell you how he is going to finance his 3 TRILLION DOLLAR PLAN?

I don't think anyone is portraying the fake State of the Union as a "true" thing, just a funny representation of his speech (and the second version I have seen of it, too). The other two, though... those are his very words. There are huge amounts of bandwidth all over the net with direct, true quotes from the man some funnier than others. He trips over words and ideas like Chevy Chase as Ford tripped over furniture. Here is another video...not true words, of course, but still pretty funny.
Theres actually some footage of Bush while he was drunk at a wedding on the same site I got my others from. I didn't think it was very funny though. Ebaumsworld.com just in case anyone wanted to know.

South Park usually balances out the Liberal swing for the Daily Show. It usually displays the left as whiny, obnoxious, and spineless. Here's one of the best examples:
Gerald Brofloski: "You see Kyle, we live in a liberal-democratic society, and democrats make sexual harassment laws, these laws tell us what we can and can't say in the work place, and what we can and can't do in the work place."
Kyle Brovslofksi: "Isn't that Fascism?"
