September is truly the best month of the year. The weather is beautiful. Not too hot, not too cold. You can wear a sweater or short sleeves. You can be comfortable in your skin. The sky is very high, colored a clear blue. The leaves are hinting at turning. Good food, like apple cider, becomes available. There are still flowers and green grass. Spiders are everywhere. Crickets sing at night. And it's my birthday on September 11!

You know, I was kind of going along with you until I saw:

Spiders are everywhere.
which reminded me of why I hate this month. Ok, hate would be a bit strong, since my birthday is on the 24th, but still....I think November and December are quite lovely months, though February and March have the best weather. Cold! All the time! And no spiders, either!

And we have good food in Louisiana year-round. [Smile]

I should correct: Spiders are everywhere, and mosquito populations are low. The two factors are intimately related, you know.

Hooray for spiders!

Jenny,
For me it is October. The light in October is spectacular. It makes everything feel so magical.

Mosquito populations are never low here. >_< And frankly, I'd rather have the mosquitoes than the spiders....

I, too, love the autumn colors, cool breezes, crisp morning air . . . but the spiders that insist on moving inside disturb me.

I insist that they live outdoors.

Otherwise, I have to agree, Jenny - this is absolutely the best time of the year!

I love September, too.

Of course, I love it for different reasons. The little lambs, and ducklings, blue skies and weather getting warmer at last. Yay spring! [Razz]

Oi Kylie I thought you loved it because my birthday is on the 3rd! and you can get me a present! Fun month a? lol

and you never had to live with the orphan lambs we had last year. they poop everywhere. in the house. in the paddock they are cute but not in the house.

Yellowjackets are everywhere.

We didn't harvest our apricots this year. They rotted on the ground instead, bringing in all the yellowjackets from miles around.

.
Autumn is the best time for fishing because the trout are all pigging out, preparing for their lakes to freeze over.

The skillery family is headed to the Uintas for a week of relaxation and adventure. The Summer crowds are all gone, and we'll have the mountain to ourselves. We'll be camped above 10,000 feet, and it'll freeze every night. Plenty of chances to snuggle with my honey.

We've located a wild cave that needs exploring, and there's a legend of lost gold associated with that cave.

I'll be sitting in my float tube, reeling in the brookies, and watching the Fall colors.

I don't like September. It signifies the start of school. [Grumble]

I dislike September almost as much as I dislike April.

Clearly, you do not live in Southern California, where September is often hotter than August and July combined.

*whines* It's too darn hot!

I was watching Seabiscuit the other day and there was a scene where it was fall and all these yellow leaves were all over the ground and I realized....

I miss fall...

I love it when night and morning bring those cold winds that make you remember that it's not always hot. They remind you that you're alive, and quite mortal.

And the best part of Septmeber is Macintosh apples from the Bitterroot Valley of Montana!

*salivates*

Mmm... Macintosh.

Mmm... Apple.

I like the weather right now. Not too hot and not too cold.

I'm with Elizabeth, October always makes me feel refreshed. Chilly nights and cool pleasant days. I love fall!

We don't have an autumn around here. All the leaves just turn brown and fall off as frost starts to appear. It's the beginning of winter.

We don't have a spring, either, come to think of it. We have a lot of slush and warm snow. It's the dirtiest time of the year by far. It's the end of winter.

We have a summer, and we have a winter that works in stages. We don't have more than two actual seasons.

I'm with you Jenny. First day of school, the creeping crispness of the air.

And my birthday is today!

Happy happy birthday! Here, I got you an apple.

"Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies."

I love fall--except for the ragweed which makes it hard for me to breathe! Still, ATL is turning from green to shades of gold and green. The mornings are crisp enough for a light sweater but the afternoons are still warm enough for sandals. The only down side really is that all of this color leads to my least favorite time of the year--winter. brrrr

*Is exceptionally jealous of skillery and family*

"Catch a brookie for me, would ya, skill?"

*Sniff*

"And have a fine time - no, really, I mean it . . . "

[Cry]

Yaay for the Harvest time! [Smile] And APPLES and PEARS and cooler weather. Sad, because I know soon I'll have to say goodbye to my summer birds and the green grass and the sunshine, but I agree with Jenny, now is the time to be comfortable in your own skin.

I hate August. Nothing good ever happens to me in August. September is good, though, because it's not August.

I am back, BTW, sort of. [Wave]

Clearly you don't live in Edmonton Alberta. I woke up yesterday and looked out the window. What I saw was a ground covered in snow.

It's gone today, but it will undoubtedly be back soon.

Oh, and Annie, "If I had your name and address I would send you a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils. On the other hand, this not knowing has its charm."

That is one of my favorite chick flicks to watch with my wife.

I'm having a hard time with September so far this year. Usually January is my worst month - I've got that light-sensitive depression thing going on. However, it appears to be starting extra early this year. I noticed last week that the sun is rising later and I've missed hearing the chirps of birds early in the morning. It's also getting dark sooner. My mood has been slowly heading downhill. [Frown]
