We just got our first paychecks since May last week. So technically we're not broke anymore, but we had so many mounting expenses before we got paid that there isn't enough for the mortgage payment. They'll have to wait until the fifth of Sept. (And then the Sept. payment will be due by the fifteenth!)

Oh, Icarus, that is why I get paid through the summer.
We are always pretty broke at the end of the summer. Everyone on my team bought friggin "Welcome students" bags, full of stuff I can barely scrape together for my own kids.
We got behind on a payment, and they broke it up into three pieces and tacked it on our regular mortgage. It killed our whole summer. I will finally get back close to the surface soon. Will we ever get our heaads ABOVE the water? I hope so.

I hear ya about bills not being paid.
People are always trying to call whining "Pay us! Pay us!" Blah. Obviously, they need to learn to deal with disappointment.
My husband and I are living on student loans currently. Getting a check in a few days (FINALLY). It'll all go for bills, late and current, though. Thus the need for a job. Soon.
The trick is not getting depressed. Being depressed sucks. I'd rather live in a fantasy world where everything is lollipops and teddy bears.

I once payed my last months rent in pennies...unrolled pennies....
I left on bad terms because the landlord wouldn't fix up the palce, and I went past my due date without paying him.
So I move, and then get a notice from him sayig that I owe hima full month rent....whic I did, but I was making things a bit difficult for him to make up for the stove I had that didn't work for 2 months, and the broken bathroom sink he never fixed. So I went in at a time when I knew the receptionist was out to lunch (1pm every day) and the owner was at the desk.
He smirked at me and said "Well Mr. Brill, I see you FINALLY came to your senses...I take it you are here to pay me?".
I said ....well, I can't print what I said here, but you get my meaning I'm sure....
So I took a large blue duffel (2 duffels one inside the other so they wouldn't break), that had $475 worth of loose pennies in it (talk about a hard trip up the drive with that!), and put it on the desk in front of him.
He said "What's that?", with a confused look on his face.
I said " Guess." and turned the open duffel bag upside down on his desk.
As he began cursing me out, and screaming at me to leave, I pulled a polaroid instant camera out of mu coat pocket and snapped a picture or him screaming at me and pointing at the door. I also took one of all the pennies lying on his desk.
When he took me to housing court (2 weeks later, it had already been schedualed), he claimed that I had never paid him.
I showed the court the pictures, and the reciept from the bank where I had gotten the change proving that I really had gotten all the rent in pennies.
Now the best part is that if he had said to me that pennies had to be rolled, I would have had to sit there and roll it all for him....after I had spent all of that time unwrapping it the night before! But he was so angry (hmmm, wonder why? ) that he ordered me to leave, and called security on me to escort me out! Thereby relieveing me of any further obligations.
After all, pennies are legal tender....

About a week ago, I accidentally answered my phone without looking at the caller ID and it was a credit card company.
I explained to the guy right away that I was going to pay what was due on September 2nd and that I was looking for a job. He kept on saying the deliquincy was serious and how did I plan to fix it... Uh.... My plan is to get a JOB. What other sort of plan could I possibly have???
What a dork.
He just wasn't very nice. He gave me his extension, but hell will freeze over before I talk to him again. I'll take my chances with someone else who answers the main line if I ever need to call.
He made plans to call me back on September 2nd. I said I might pay it a couple days earlier if the check comes early (which often happens), and he said something like "okay, if you want to beat me to the punch." ??? I say again. What a dork.
I should pay THEM in pennies.
I like my landlady, though. She's letting us be a whole month late this month.

I had lawyers laughing at him with me after the case.
He got busted lying to the court too, and they made note of it.
I got the case dismissed, and it was one of the best things I had ever done.
Some of the lawyers were convinced that I had counsel advise me to do all that, it was so well done, but I thought it up by myself.
I am not a good person to piss off. I won't beat anyone up, or break the law, but....
That doesn't really limit you if you have an imagination.

Very heavy...that is why I took the elevators, and used heavy duty duffels. One bag would have ripped, but I used both straps to balance the weight on both sholders.
I was just out of the Army too, and was in great shape (compared to now... )and had a friend help me to the elevator. He was there to see security follow me out, and he went to court with me to vouch for it.
There is no way I would have made it up to the second floor without an elevator, even then.
I went right to his desk with it, and almost didn't get it up to the desk level, even using my whole body to do it.
I didn't know how much it wieghed, just that I couldn't carry it far. I am short, but fairly stocky, even more so back then....about 200 lbs.

I had an army bag I think I used for the inside bag, and I think I used a blue professional sports bag for the outside one....and I still though they would break!

I actually have a decent amount of money in the bank right now. By the end of the day I will be broke again, however. I need to pay the condo association about four months worth of assessments, otherwise they are going to revoke my right to live in the building. I also need to pay the electric bill so they don't shut it off (according to their letter, they should have done so a week ago) and pay the phone bill, which DID get shut off last Thursday.
Ah, finances!
The good news is that by Friday, when I plan on paying the balance of the utilities, I should be current on the assessment, the utilities, and have absolved my car loan by selling the car. Which will put me in MUCH better shape. Then it's only the mortgage and a few miscellaneous bills to tackle, and I will be all caught up. It may or may not have crossed my mind that becoming a lawyer opens up all kinds of possibilities for such mischief. Knowledge is a wonderful thing.

Edit 2: As for carrying, a fireman type carry would not be inconceivable for a decent-sized guy in moderate shape. It's well within bounds for someone in real shape.
Edit 3: Oh, and Kwea, there's this new-fangled gadget called the "wheel." It's used to make things called "dollies" which are perfect for carrying heavy objects.

I think I've got it best at the moment... I don't live at home, but they're fifteen minutes away, so I don't have to pay for laundromats and stuff, I take my laundry home... also today, when I'm sick, I'm at home instead of sitting alone in my room crying like I was last night.

I haven't balanced my checkbook, it is so depressing. My dh lost his job 2 months ago and is delivering pizzas while trying to find something else. Our income was cut in 1/2 but unfortunately our bills weren't. I suppose I ought to balance today to make sure we aren't overdrawn. sigh.
**Be nice to your delivery drivers and give a decent tip okay? Some of them are supporting families on those tips. I couldn't believe when my dh told me there was a $50 delivery the other night that required a lot of hassle to get to the front door and they didn't tip him at all. The whole wheel thing was something I considered, but I didn't want to lift it in front of him..it would have ruined the surprise when I dumped it on the desk.
Also, my way I could use two straps over my shoulders and still have a handle to muscle it up to the desk. I needed both hands to get it there, and pretty much used my whole body to do it. Hips, legs, shoulder....you name it.
Also, his office was right across from the elevators, so I only had to carry it by myself for about 15-20 steps total.
I DID wonder if his desk would hold once I put the bags down...it made quite a thump.
If I had realized exactally how heavy it was I might have backed down...or not put all the pennies in it, trusting him to be too angry to count then all.....but that would have been dishonest...
