I could go to the gym. They have air conditioning there.
Since with this humidity and heat and isolated T storms till noon tomorrow, I can't go on my bike ride. Well, I could, but that would be stupid for me to do so.

Mack, I am dying.
If I wanted to have Florida weather, I would move to Florida. This is unacceptable. If my first day of school is like this, the kids will go home saying, "Well, my math teacher is OK, but she's kinda sweaty." Just what I need.

Yeah, the gym sounds like a good idea. Not as much fun as excercising outdoors, but at least this way you won't collapse and die of heatstroke or something.
There are mountains near you though, right? Surely if you just attained enough altitude it would cool down, right?

That was my plan, but with isolated T storms predicted (I can see the thunderheads right now), and a higher chance of storms at higher elevations, me getting caught above treeline would be a Very Bad Idea.

Da G, My folks bought a house in Prescott a couple of years before it became the little boomtown it is. We did go up for a couple of days, and it is beautiful. They live up on Washington Street, so there is a beautiful view of Thumb Butte from the porch.

That's a single street over from me. I walk to Tri-J's market, the little convenience store at the end of Washington St, almost every other day to buy a Henry Weinhardt's Root Beer.

The kids and I were outside looking at snails, and my son and I heard this big grunt. I KNOW it was a javelina. Their house is the last one on the right, going up the hill, so there is an open area where they like to hang out. I never saw it, though. Just the snails.

The other night it was 9 pm, 90 degrees and 90% percent humidity. Which made the heat index 100 degrees at nine o'clock at night.
Today, however, it's only 76 and gorgeous out. Thank God. We had too many days in a row with heat index hovering between 110-115. It's murder when you work in an unconditioned warehouse.

Thanks Kayla for having the exact figures to hand. I knew it was awful here but didn't know what the humidity was. Working outside in this type of heat and humidity is awful. What I hate is walking out the door at 6:00 AM and it feels like someone has wrapped you in a warm wet wool blanket. Ughh. Luckily we are much cooler today. I'm doing last minute things to get ready for my fishing trip to Northern Minnesota and the forecast there looks very promising.

You people complain too much. I live in Florida. During summer 90 with 50% humidity is cold, especially the 50% part, that's usually much higher and of course it happens on a regular basis. That and it rains every afternoon like clockwork.

I don't think it's even hit 90 here once this summer. It was in the low 80s earlier this week, and I think it got up to the mid-80s sometime in July...
Most of August has felt like mid-October. July was like a nice September, June was like April, and it snowed in May. Twice.

I've been outside. I went to the grocery store and the chiropractor. I even sat on the porch, since it's no yapping dog day. But, considering all the rain we've had, there's not much else to do but wait for everything to dry out. I'm betting the lawn will need to be mowed, but there's no way to do it now. I heard that on Monday night in Lawrence at 23rd and Ousdahl there were people pushing cars out of the intersection and were in water up to their chests. http://www.ljworld.com/section/citynews/story/179369 And then on Wednesday again, then last night. I can't believe the rain.

I go you beat! It was 85 degrees until it got dark here, and 96% humidity. Right now it has cooled off some, because it's raining bucketfuls with lots of lightning. And I made and canned tomato sauce today...with no air conditioning. My hair never dries in August here....it's like the bird house at the zoo. Rain

It went mostly north of us last night, although some storms were close enough to hear the thunder/lightning. But no rain for us. So I spent the entire day mowing. (Ivygirl helped -- she did the riding mower and I used the tractor/bushhog). I'm glad I've finally had a weekend to mow because it has been so impossible for so long...
(and Kayla, I never heard the update on the possible job with your husband's company?)
Rain -- you're in Ohio, right? You are a glutton for punishment - canning in the heat. I remember doing lots of that with my grandmother as I was growing up -- also with no air conditioning (we still don't own air conditioning here at our house). I love my memories of helping her can vegies and fruits we had picked, then sitting in the next room waiting to here the "pop" of each one as it sealed. She would count the pops to make sure they all sealed correctly.
You have my admiration.

Farmgirl, I'm trying it out. Also, I mentioned this somewhere, but I don't know where, but July was the 3rd wettest since 1934 and in August, our average rainfall is about 1.33" and so far we've had over 10.5".
Oh, and since I've completely hijacked this thread, let me tell you about the spider hole my son found. I thought it was an anthill or a snake hole, but my husband went out and looked at it and said, "Oh no, that's a spider." 'Scuse me? A spider can make a hole like that? Where's my spray? His response? "But he's all the way down at the end of the sidewalk. He's barely on the property." And I think barely just isn't cutting it. Spiders, get the heck off my property, or you will be sprayed. Now, after looking around, I'm not so sure it's a spider hole, but it really doesn't matter. Whatever it is, it's getting sprayed.

And, while I'm talking about me, let me tell you about the chiropractor. I went to my husband's because my neck hurt this morning and I knew it was just the beginning of a major shoulder muscle knot and besides, my thumb, index finger and half of my middle finger have been numb since the middle of July. While in there, he said I should have my left carotid artery looked at for plaque. I had an ultrasound done 8 years ago and it was fine and I have really low cholesterol, so I'm not all that concerned.
However, I do have major shoulder issues that cause major pain in/under/around my shoulder blade. Sometimes, one shoulder will be a good 4-6" higher than the other. Sometimes, the knots under my shoulder blade will make the shoulder blade stick out 4-6". Basically, there is not a moment in time where I'm not in pain. However, most of the time, it's not that bad and I've learned to deal with it. When I do something I know I shouldn't, it usually affects my right shoulder blade because the injury is to the left shoulder. Something about the right side compensating for the left's failings.
Anyway, when my sister-in-law works on the muscles, she's always going on about, "Well, no wonder it hurts so much." Today, the chiropractor was pretty much the same. He was saying how bad of an injury this was and how I should come in twice a week for the first month and then we'll see from there. Apparently, I was writhing/wincing when he was barely touching certain parts of my back. My husband says it's true. He showed me how hard he was touching me by touching just as hard on my arm. Man, am I a wimp. He was really barely touching me, yet I was feeling a lot of pain. This must be why I hate people touching me so much. Posted by Suneun (Member # 3247) on :
