Here's the problem. I can't find enough good music. I rip through pieces in a matter of weeks, draining them of all their "spirit" and then moving on to newer, better pieces.

But... it's getting really hard to find them.

What am I looking for specifically?

Something that BURNS with emotion, that RIPS through the mind and brands it permanently; something with a BRILLIANT tune that dives into my soul.

Any genre (though I always love finding classical pieces that stick to me because I appreciate the genre, but most pieces bore me).

I need new music!

Do you know of the Indigo Girls?

Posted by Phanto (Member # 5897) on :

Yeah, don't like them [Frown] .

Any other ideas?

Interested in soundtracks?

Try A Beautiful Mind and Glory, both by James Horner. Or, for something a little more lighthearted, try Klaus Badelt's The Time Machine.

If you're looking for something with a more "popular music" style, check out Vienna Teng.

I have a couple friends who occasionally do radio shows on the local college station. This past Sunday night they did a film scores show. A whole lot of Danny Elfman, mostly, but I think they had a song from a Muppets movie in there too.

I though Philip Glass did A Beautiful Mind. . .

If you like classical, check out Carmina Burana, if you haven't already... it's one of the most amazing works of classical music ever written.

Well...some of my favorites:

Loreena Mckennitt (Celtic, New Age)
Blind Guardian (Melodic Heavy Metal - try "Nightfall on Middle Earth". It's a must)
Demons and Wizards (Melodic Heavy Metal)
Ambeon (Progressive Rock)

You might try some of these.

Yanni touches my soul (although no one else here has ever agreed on that with me)

Ernest Ranglin. Instrumental jazz-reggae, sort of. He was Bob Marley's guitarist.

Just an info site. Looks like he has no personal website.

To tell you the truty, FG, Yanni touches the bored part of my soul. [Wink]

But I'm more a heavy metal guy (well...I like Loreena and Enya, but Yanni...)

Phanto, have you heard Nellie McKay or Tori Amos? Based on your previous music suggestions/observations, I think you might find both of 'em fairly nifty.

My quite unknown recommendation.

Tori Amos is good.
You should also try "The Cranberries".

Radiohead. Never a dull moment.

What are your feelings on evil disco?

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

I don't like Radiohead at all. I am not even sure why.

Some great classical, in my opinion, is Holst's The Planets (Mars is my absolute favorite). I'd also second Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.

My favorite group for the last couple months has been Massive Attack (especially the 100th Window album). Before that, I was on a Lacuna Coil kick. Before that, Earthsuit.

New U2 album on November 23!

This is also my half-birthday. Coincidence? I think not!

The single comes out next month... it's called "Vertigo."

<----- so excited

If you did weird European stuff, U2's Zooropa album is my all time favorite.

Farmgirl - Yanni Live at the Acropolis is one of my all-time favorite CDs [Big Grin]

It's even better cause I saw it on TV and can picture the cool lady in the red dress doing the violin solos... *sigh* I love it!

Phanto, maybe some examples of what songs DO move you in such a way would be helpful.

Anyway, I know The Odyssey by Symphony X has always moved me. And if you're into classical and rock, it's got elements of both, so you might like it. It's 24 minutes long, though...

Myr,
How do you like your new music?

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Hehe, I was just searching for an appropriate thread to comment on it. I have only gotten a chance to listen to the first few songs of each CD, but I have to say I LOVE it!! They're the kind of music you can't listen to without your feet dancing and your head bobbing along [Big Grin]

Phanto,

Have you ever listened to Chopin's nocturnes? Many are absolutely wonderful.

Sincerely,

Brinestone
