[Big Grin]

So, on the second day of KamaCon Annie wrote an advert on the whiteboard in the hospitality room entitled "Free Pants." Seems she had drawn a design on a pair of black jeans with a bleach pen, and they had ended up being too short for her, so she was giving them away.

Now, I'm an inch or two shorter than Annie, plus I'm long-waisted, so my legs are proportionately even shorter. ( dkw got the long-legs gene.) so I told her I was interested, and she said she had done kinda an oriental-style design on them. I was picturing something maybe the size of my palm on a back pocket. And from what I knew of Annie so far, I was pretty sure it would be cool.

She brought them up the next morning... the design, instead of being a little thing on a back pocket, covered one whole leg, hip to hem, and was unbelievably fabulous. I pounced immediately, of course. They ended up fitting, and even being a little too long... which is good, since it means I can wear platforms underneath and pretend I have normal-length legs. [Wink]

So I wore them to work yesterday. Everybody commented on how cool they were, from the first person who saw me walking in to my barista when I went for coffee to the hostess when I went out for dinner last night. I could have sold 5 or 6 pairs in my office alone, not to mention the people who stopped me on the street. Most people thought I must have bought them this way... I got a few incredulous "You didn't do that yourself, did you?" questions, and the rest asked some variation on "Where did you find those?" To all, I replied: "Oh, my friend Annie did it. Isn't it awesome?"

Since I am an admitted attention-whore, I had a great day yesterday. [Cool] And I just wanted to echo Hobbes's frequent refrain about how talented, lovely, and wonderful Annie is. Thanks again, Annie!

<stealing from ElJay's comments in one of the KamaCon threads>

I can see the marketing campaign now:

"Get into Annie's pants!"

"Everyone is into Annie's pants!"

We could have the photos turned into that coloring book thing that Javert did with his Kamacon photos. And then we could have coloring contests for Annie's pants. Then show a worker making them saying "I'm dying for Annie's pants."

Then, there will be other products, blouses, hats, etc.

We could have ads with some woman wearing one of the new blouses saying:
"I have something to get off my chest...

Annie's pants!"

So, ElJay, where's the photos? You modeled the Kamacon shirts so well...I would think and attention seeker (refrains from calling his future sister in law a "whore" even though she used that term herself!) would be posting pics galore by now!!!

The world wants to see you in Annie's pants!

Who's with me on this???

Ooops, there are pictures!

That's amazing Annie!!!

So cool.

And yes, you could sell that stuff I bet.

"Annie's pants -- your other clothing will hide in shame."

"Annie's pants -- what your other clothes wish they could wear."

Question: what's a "bleach pen?"

Is it literally a pen in which the ink has been replaced by bleach? Or is it a special device made for the dispensing of bleach in a controlled fashion?

I'm simply amazed at the "feathering" effect shown in the pictures. I'm sure that takes artistic talent and skill, but I'm having trouble imagining the delivery mechanism that would allow such fine-tuned application of bleaching agents to fabrics. It is way cool.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

I'm assuming this is what she used, or something like it:

http://www.clorox.com/company/news/pr081103.html

I have one, since Mom bought a three-pack and likes giving me stuff. It has come in handy for removing small stains from white shirts, and I've been contemplating cleaning my tile grout with it, but it would have never occurred to me to use it in this fashion.

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

If that's true (i.e., that Annie used a Clorox brand bleach pen to do this), I think the Clorox company would be VERY interested.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

[Laugh] Eljay!

Was that pun intentional?

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

I'd never have thought that Eljay and I are the same size. o_O

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

Yes, the Clorox brand bleach pen was the culprit, and quite by accident. My sister and I were at Target and, for some reason, desperately needed bleach. Lo and behold, the only bleach you can buy at target is a combo pack of spray-on OxiClean and 3 Clorox bleach pens.

So, we got them home and I was playing with the pen, trying to get my sister to let me bleach something colorful of hers. We did fish scales on a pair of pants she owned and drew an electric guitar on a blue shirt. We were so excited about this new-found marvel that we were bleaching every article of clothing we could find. That's where the chinese bleach pants came from.

I'm glad they were such a hit! I was hoping they'd find a good home, and I'm glad I thought to bring them to KamaCon. [Smile]

Noeman, it was not intentional. Alas, I am not that clever. I had to go back and re-read my post to figure out what you were talking about.

mack, I bet we mass about the same, but I am hippy, and if I recall you are not. You're probably broader across the shoulders, but that won't affect wearing pants. So, yeah... unless you were saying that the pants would be to big for you, in which case I apologize.

Someone should, indeed, inform clorax.

Annie, I'd love a pair, too, but I think I'll have to go out and buy some pants. I'll email you if I find a suitable pair. *hates pants shopping*

I had a student worker who made these really great jeans, too, by ripping the leg seams and sewing a colorful triangle of fabric in to make flared legs.

I'm not sure if it is inappropriate or not, but I also really loved rivka's black beaded hair covering. Is there somewhere I could get one?

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Ooooh, a couple years ago at work they tried to say we couldn't wear jeans on Fridays anymore. I searched though my, my mom's, and dkw's closet and found all the denim we owned. I wore blue denim skirts, dresses, and jumpers every day for two weeks. The last day I wore a skirt that dkw made for me, by taking a pair of levis and ripping out the seams and sewing in a lovely floral tapestry fabric... so there was a large triangle of it in front and back, and then we put in a smaller triangle on each side seam, to flare it out a bit more. It was lovely. It is lovely, I still wear it regularly.

We got our jeans Fridays back... not 'cause of me, that was just my own little silent protest. But I love that skirt.

Eljay, you are my hero [Smile] I can't imagine working anywhere that didn't allow jeans.

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

What I really want to get my hands on is some of that reflective saftey tape that they use on highway workers' vests and put stripes of it down the side seams of a pair of jeans.

Manipulating clothing is so much fun...

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

I wouldn't want to wear jeans every day, so I'm fine with the fact that I'm not supposed to. (Note please that I did not say "can't." 'Cause I do, on occasion, wear jeans on other days of the week.) I like wearing skirts and dresses. But it's still really nice on Fridays to know that I can just get up and pull on jeans. And there was absolutely no reason to take it away. Stupid corporate policies.

Something I've always wanted to do is make a skirt out of a bathmat with the suckers on the outside. I can't stand the thought of getting stuck to chairs, though. I wonder if there's something I can do to the suckers to make them not, um, sucky. I thought of cutting a slit in each but that might be too obvious.

Baby oil?

Annie, I found the pair I want you to do. Email me the snail mail address at annekateard AT bham DOT rr DOT com.

Total freedom to do whatever strikes your fancy, but dragon themes do suit me (Draetakenna, you know) and anything else you think of that reminds you of me would be super cool.

I am trying to finish Anna's sweater I've been knitting for a year now, and am nearly done. It's got all sorts of symbolism knitted into intricate patterns I designed that come from our shared experiences, our friendship, dreams we've told each other, and so on. It's been the greatest fun! Sort of like weaving my love for her into corporeal form for her to wear. Also I put tons of harrypottermom mojo into the weave, to keep her safe from all harm. I will post pics after she's received it.

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

You could just poke a hole in the suckers and they wouldn't suck anymore.

I also wonder about the fashion possibilities of astroturf...

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Only poke holes in the ones in back, though, so you don't stick to chairs. Leave the ones on the side, so you can casually lean your hip against a wall, and then make cool popping sounds as you pull away.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

those jeans are so awesome, annie!

I had a pair of jeans that were just a little too short, so I let the seams out, fringed them, opened the side seam to create a flare, and lined the edge of the pant leg with this gorgeous purple ribbon just above the fringe. I love these hippy-esque jeans, and since both the jeans and ribbon came from walmart, it was uber-cheap.

I'm severely tempted to send annie a pair of jeans. It sounds like an awesome idea, but I have no drawing talent for something like that.

Honestly, hun - you could have a start-up/side business based just on doing those bleachings. Lord knows I'd pay for a pair of jeans like that.

...Or, as your first business promotion, you could do them free for Hatrackers only - everyone who sees us wearing them will ask us where we got them and soon you'll have customers from all over. ...After the Clorox comercial, of course [Big Grin] .

Edit: Or Pix could actually read the whole thread. [Blushing] Just ten dollars, eh? What a sweetheart!!

Annie, would/could you do a denim skirt? Or does it have to be something with legs?

Christy, my headcoverings are called snoods. I'm not sure which one you are referring to. (I brought a dozen, and I'm not exactly sure which ones I ended up wearing, but none are black with beads. Might have worn a blue net one with gold triangles; and I know I wore the blue knit with sparklies (because I remember Telp commenting on it).

My net ones are lined, and I get them in Israel (actually, I get most of the knit ones there too). I'd be happy to pick one/some up for you when I'm there in few weeks. (I plan to get some for me, anyway.) I just need to know color preferences, and stuff like that.

If you prefer net ones that are unlined, there are a number of suppliers on the Net. They seem to target Renn-Fairers, as well as people who just think they are cool. [Smile]

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

I can do anything - skirts, pants, hammer pants, doublets...

Basically, anything dark works. I did one of my sister's t-shirts that is a lighter blue and it worked just fine.

If you want to find out what the design will look like, try a little smudge of bleach on an inconspicuous piece of the fabric and wait about 10 minutes - that will be the color of the lines.

Posted by Christy (Member # 4397) on :

Rivka, I would love one when you go to Israel! I liked yours so much, just pick one out that you like . I'm not too particular about color.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

[Smile] We're talking about the net ones, Christy? Or the knits? (I can link pictures if you need a visual.) They're really pretty cheap in Israel ( 1/3 to 1/2 what I would pay here), so just let me know if you want more than one.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Oh! And Annie, if you could email me your current address, I will send you the skirt I had in mind.

I think it would be cool to send it from this address (so, like, tomorrow or thereabouts) and get it sent back to my new address.

Eljay--I thought your size would be way smaller than me.

*kicks brain*

Posted by Christy (Member # 4397) on :

*blush* Visual, please? I went looking online myself and still couldn't make heads or tales. I can find net snoods and solid fabric snoods, but I don't really see any knit snoods, or if I do, I can't tell them apart from the net snoods. I'd like a short, lined snood in a darker color, preferably with some bead adornment.

Thanks, rivka!

*grin*

mack, I have a classic hourglass figure, with a very small waist. When I wear fitted shirts, like the KamaCon ones, it makes me look really skinny. It's mostly an illusion. [Wink] I would bet that I even weigh more than you, since I'm a little taller, but I ain't posting my weight to the board to settle the bet.

I think it's awesome that everybody who wants them gets Annie Pants. Annie, this really better only be a Hatrack price, though, 'cause it's way low. (Says the girl who got the free ones.) Anyway, if we start sending real business your way, I think at least $50 would be more appropriate... heck, it's original artwork, in a boutique those pants would have cost me $200, easy.

The ones I keep calling knits are simply the solid ones. (There are occasionally ones made from woven cloth, but they have no give.)

Knit
Unlined net

I am having trouble finding pictures of lined net ones, which actually doesn't surprise me. They look much like the unlined ones, only with a lining of fabric in the same (or sometimes contrasting) color as the netting.

(Just for fun: Death by snood!)

Anyway, short, lined net in a dark color with some kind of beading, etc. is simple. [Smile]

I don't have a camera but Bernard is supposed to be sending me his as a loaner. I will post pics once I get that. They're so fantastic! The markings are softer and blurrier than on the original pair, because apparently these pants were particularly absorbant, but I love the way it looks. The patterns are amazingly cool! They remind me of foliage from the Jurassic, sort of fernlike and skeletal and lavish. A bit like the imagery on Tool cds too, or like Maynard's spine tatoo. The skeletalness of it. I think they are stunning.

She hosted the picture on my site, which is sadly still down due to it being a crappy server. It's a black shirt with a red egg-timer on the front, just like a black widow. She got a whole bunch made up in a special order from a ... a shirt making place that everyone but me seems to know the fancy phrase that's supposed to be used to describe it. [Embarrassed] I can send you a picture if you want, just e-mail me. [Cool]

*sings* I got a pack-age! [Smile] And it had Annie-pants . . . err, Annie-skirt.

It is SO COOL! My SIL took some pics with her cell phone, but I don't seem to have received them properly. I'll put 'em up somewhere when I get them.

Thanks again, Annie! [Big Grin]

Annie, I really want a pair of your pants now. Will you do a pair for me? I won't send any till next month 'cause hopefully I'll be needing a larger size soon. [Wink] If you want to e-mail me your address that would be great - nicole AT nickellie DOT com

I aquired a bleach pen out of pure chance and couldn't think of anything to do with it, so I drew on some jeans that didn't fit me anymore. Soon as I get access to a digital camera and my computer fixed, I'll put pictures up, and send them to whoever wants em. Annie's pants are still WAY better than mine, though.

Ni!

Annie, I'm wondering if you can decorate a black skirt that somehow got a few bleached spots on it. It made me very sad. [Frown]
