Okay, go read this book (Odd Girl Speaks Out by Rachel Simmons). Especially if you are a girl. All those painful stories we write in our Landmark Threads are echoed in beautiful poetry and prose written by teenage girls. Simmons also gives wise advice and makes observations about the ways girls hurt each other.

It's very painful, but also cathartic.

Wow, great reading list! I've picked up several of them, and can honestly say that they are well worth reading and more importantly, discussing.

I have serious doubts about the Ophelia series. For a different perspective, try The WAR AGAINST BOYS : How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men, by Christina Hoff Sommers.

Mrs. M can I ask why you have doubts? (I've never read either side so I'm curious...)

AJ, virtually none of Pipher's claims have been backed up by peer-reviewed research.

Also, it doesn't jibe at all with the tweens and teens that I've worked with in the past few years.
