quote:
Francis H. C. Crick, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, the genetic blueprint for life, and the leading molecular biologist of his age, died on Wednesday night in a hospital in San Diego. He was 88.
quote:
So central is DNA to biology that the names of Francis H. C. Crick and James D. Watson, his American colleague in the discovery, may be remembered as long as those of Darwin and Mendel, the architects of the two pillars of modern biology, the theory of evolution and the laws of genetics.
quote:
Dr. Crick was a scientist with a thirst to understand and a talent for productive friendships. It was his two-year collaboration with Dr. Watson that made possible the discovery of the structure of DNA, a feat that each has said he would not have accomplished without the other. After Dr. Watson returned to the United States, Dr. Crick's close collaborator for many years was Sydney Brenner, with whom he solved the nature of the genetic code.
It always makes me feel sad when a great mind passes away [Cry]

It's too bad it wasn't that jackass Watson.

fallow, a girl in my lab just went to cold spring harbor a couple weeks ago for a course. She said that Watson is indeed the asshole he sounds like. Likes to draw attention to himself, still thinks women don't belong in science, stuff like that.

Looks like he's succeeding in drawing attention to himself in Crick's thread.

The world has lost a truly great scientific mind. Dr. Crick, you will be missed.

A brilliant man, Crick.

Just last night I was reading a book on genetics, Time Love Memory, and Crick was described. I kept thinking about him, and how I should try and change the world like he did.

The world truly has lost a great man; this man has changed the face of science and inspired the world.

On his deathbed, he still managed to inspire a boy millions of miles away, lying on a cot bed, reading and wondering.

The real heroine

But yeah Crick was far nicer than Watson.

Why is it that the jerks live the longest?

I heard that late last night. The genetic model is still one of the greatest scientific discoveries ever made.

EDIT:
Jerks live the longest because they have piss and vinegar running through their veins. It preserves them in a similar way to fromaldahyde (sp?).
