Here's the dictionary's attempt:

i·ro·ny -

1. The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.

2. Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs:

Has anyone else ever hated the definition of irony? I feel it poorly describes what the word actualy means.
