I'm not sure if everyone does this, or just me ...
But I have a pretty set convenience store routine that I use about twice a week.

I like to purchase 4 airheads - 2 White Mystery ones, one Watermelon, and one blue raspberry, a 20 oz bottle of gatorade, and some form of a chocolate bar.

Maybe I should change this around a little, so I was wonderin if anyone else has a routine they'd like to share [Wink] .

Usually along the lines of "Oh, crap, I'm out of milk." And fetching said milk at nearest convenience store.

Henry Weinhardts Root Beer, Dr. Pepper, or Monster Energy Drink
Extra Polar Ice gum

6:30 to 6:45 AM each morning -- Kwik Shop. One large french vanilla cappaccino. Gasoline if I need it.
Sometimes a hotdog w/bun for breakfast.

I have even learned all the clerks' names: Patrick, Staci, Dan, Reva, Johnny. And now they know me..

....*hums* sometimes you like to go..where everybody knows your name...

I'm not sure I can remember the last time I went to a convenience store. Maybe a couple months ago -- I got a cup of coffee when I was buying gasoline. Convenience stores don't really seem all that convenient to me. Just expensive.

Of course, when I was a kid, it was multiple thirsty-two ouncers every day, and I swear we could get a quart of soft-serve ice cream onto those 39-cent sugar cones. Of course, you had to remove the tray (temporarily) from underneath the dispenser.

When my husband was smoking, he went every day to get cigarettes. He also got a 16 oz. Coke, a Snickers, and a bag of chips.

When he stopped smoking, he started to figure out that he had spent a boatload of money on not only cigarettes, but the other itmes. Over a year, that adds up!

Now, we are just regulars at Dunkin Donuts, and throw our money away in their till.

Mmmm. Donuts.

I am well-known at the 7-11 across the street from the music building. I tend to buy stuff that will hold me over until I get home for dinner like:

trail mix. it has to be the kind with some chocolate in it.

Water. I'm a musician, and for some reason we always have to be seen with a water bottle. It keeps up an image of some sort.

Hot Chocolate or vanilla steamed milk. No Starbucks for me. 7-11 does just fine.

On good days, or when they have a good selection, I'll get a donut. [Smile]

I can't stand buying anything at a convenience store. Way too expensive, and all they have is junk food. And convenience store cashiers are uniformly unpleasant.

I set foot inside a convenience store once every blue moon to use their bathroom. Otherwise, I pay at the pump.

Most mornings I pick up a pack of smokes, an Arizona Plum Iced Tea, and usually a pack of hot&spicy beef jerkey. Breakfast of champs.

When I was in college (despite my advanced age, it was only a few years ago [Blushing] ) I stopped at a convenience store every morning to fill my 32 oz insulated mug with either Dr. Pepper or Cherry Pepsi. That usually lasted me most of the day throughout my classes and my work study office job.

Since I moved to Maui, I seldom patronize convenience stores. I pay for my gas at the pump, and the price here is soooooo depressing (and once it goes up here, it stays up, despite what happens on the mainland) that I just drive away in disgust. Besides, the fountain drinks here suck and they don't have cheap mug refills like they do on the mainland.

When my husband and I were on our honeymoon in Englewood, Florida(yes, I know, odd place for a honeymoon in June), we went every morning to a convenience store nearby. We got a six-pack of beer, and the best danged seafood salad croissants I have EVER had, before or since. If we lived there now, I think it would be the same routine, except for the beer.

Posted by kaioshin00 (Member # 3740) on :

except for beer as in for beer only?

When I was a kid I used to get either starburst or rolos. Even then I was anal. After I ate the starburst I'd refold the wrapper so it looked like it was still full and leave them to trick my little brothers and sisters. I was just reminiscing with my sister the other day how even the distribution of flavors is in a starburst package. I always ate them pink, yellow, orange, and red.

I still mourn the brief but wonderful career of Hershey's Bar None. That was a good candy bar.

It was a sad sad day when they got rid of green Starbursts and substituted red. They should have gotten rid of those nasty pink ones instead. [Razz]

Ooooh, Henry Weinhardt's root beer!

Last time I flew back from LA, I brought about 18 bottles with me. Each wrapped with bubble wrap and newspaper and bags.

I'm a nut. But it's SO good.

I'm too cheap to buy anything else when I get gas.

I never go into convenience stores. I live next to a Kash and Karry (I don't even have to drive, I just walk over there) so that is where I go when I need something quick. Seeing as it is open 24/7 it is just as handy as a convenient store...but cheaper. When I get gas, I use my credit card so I never need to go inside to the convenience stores attatched to gas stations to pay for my gas...I just pay at the pump.

but your post reminds me that I have not had air heads in quite a long time. I think I will drop by that kash and Karry tonight and pick some up. [Smile]

Look to see if they have Clearly Canadian. They never do; is that drink even made anymore? Look to see if they have Propel flavored water. Buy water, gas, and occasionally ephedrine.

kaioshin00 asked:

"except for beer as in for beer only?"

ha ha. As in, I would probably either get Diet Coke instead of beer, if it were the morning.(since it was a morning routine)
However, if i lived there and worked there, I would just switch the routine to an afternoon one. Then I would be all set.

Whoo, edited for a MAJORLY embarrassing typo.

Hey Kaioshin - have you ever seen Rain Man? [Razz]

My roommate and I would occasionally walk to the gas station when we lived in the suburby part of town and that was the only thing to walk to. We would go in the middle of the night and read the touristy books on ghost towns.

Posted by Lupus (Member # 6516) on :

in honor of this thread I am eating an airhead while I type

I made it back from Kash and Karry before the rain. I even found a new flavor "scooby-doo's mystery bar"

No, haven't seen rain man? is it good?

It's very good. And by mentioning it, I'm only mildly mocking your strict-routine quirk. [Smile]

Kash and karry. Good.

My favorite name around here is Spuds and Buds.

Lupus, I've never been to the Kash and Karry here, though ive driven by it many times. Is it better than winn dixie?

Mmmmm!! I LOVE Clearly Canadian. [Frown] I'm sad if they don't carry it. It's so much better than Talking Rain (because of all the SUGAR!! Yum!!)

[Big Grin]

[edit: going to make a convenience store run right now! Twizzlers and Airheads sound fantastic!!!]

ya, I think so. I don't like it as much as publix, but it is right next door to me so I don't have to even get into my car and fight 34th street traffic.

And by the way: Krispy Kreme donuts are WAY better than dunkin donuts.

kaioshin is obviously a man of good tastes! Krispy Kreme, Tool, and Darwin! <laughs> [Smile]

Yeah, Dunkin Donuts is a sham compared to Krispy Kremes.

And, yeah, Henry Weinhardt's is the awesomest. If it was a bit cheaper ($1.49 for a 12oz bottle) and had caffeine, I probably wouldn't drink anything else.

Posted by Mr.Gumby (Member # 6303) on :

krispy kremes are good, but they're too little and too "disolves-in-the-mouth-quickly" for the price you pay.

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

they'd last longer if you bothered to chew before you swallow.

Posted by Mr.Gumby (Member # 6303) on :

you don't have to chew them. they disolve almost as fast as cotton candy.

"And by the way: Krispy Kreme donuts are WAY better than dunkin donuts."

Them's fightin' words.

Mack, that is just one more thing you must defend out west: our Dunkins.

I don't really care about the donuts, anyway. It is the coffee, both hot and iced. I defy Krispy Kreme to even come close.

Also, Mack, when I was in Phoenix a couple of years ago, they did not know what a Coolatta was! And did not know how to make an iced coffee to save their souls! AND, worst of all, there is NOT a Dunkin Donuts on every corner(there is a rule in Mass and NH: every town must have at least three Dunkin Donuts-one of those old Blue Laws)

Oh, Mack, are you SURE you want to go?

I believe that Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts can coexist peacefully. Here's why:

We all know that the major reason to love Krispy is the fluffy, delicious quality of the glazed donuts, or any donut that began as a glazed donut, such as chocolate iced.

But Dunkin' holds its own in the cake donut category, with much richer donuts. (Hint: You'll need more milk.)

So, if I want chocalate iced, I go Krispy. If I want double chocolate, I go Dunkin'. If I want boston creme, I get it wherever's closet. See?

E- We have Coolattas down here now, BTW.

sorry to hear that, afr. I have found just the opposite fact for me. However, I am, of course, pleasant to them first, and they seem to be very pleasant and friendly to me..

Yes, they still make it, but it is getting harder and harder to find. Currently, I only know of one place in our area that carries it, and it is a large supermarket that has everything. The convenience stores don't seem to have it anymore around here.

Is anyone else familiar with the brilliance that is Jones Soda?

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Oh yeah. I love those.

It took me a while to realize that the pictures on the bottle have nothing to do with the flavors of the soda, nor the ingredients.

Which was quite a relief, when I saw the first bottle. It was root beer and it had something like an old shoe on the label. Or a baby.

kaioshin00 -- what flavor gatorade? So far, your routine sounds just like my daughter's! (the mystery airheads, chocolate and gatorade...)

Henry Weinhardts is great for sipping. Such flavor! I still have some bottles from the trip. I even checked the main bag, and was lucky that none of them broke. The bag weighed like 60 pounds, so I'm glad I didn't have to lug it around on the layover.

I can tell you the location and hours of the seven dunkin donuts in Manchester. I can also tell you that I have three within a mile.

Mack,
Maybe they should make a special density map for the population of Dunkin Donuts.

PSIT,
Good point about the Dunkin-Krispy alliance. I really go for the coffee anyway.

And it is about time AZ got with the Coolatta program!
