So here's a silly naive question-

If I've got meta tags on my site, will search engines automatically discover it, or do I have to do something to make them notice me?

Did you write that JavaScript yourself? I thought you hated programming!

<--*Knows nothing of search engines*

If by "write that Java script yourself," you mean "move some stuff around on the screen and let the program write all the code for you," why yes, yes I did.

Search Engine Optimization

You want to check out the optimization section. But the other sections are really helpful as well.

Wow, that page really helps, Strider. Thanks! [Smile]

You're Welcome. [Smile]

Without reading Strider's links, most search engines have a submission form so you can suggest sites.

Being proactive can certainly help start the ball rolling.

*chuckle*

Hobbes, functions starting with MM_ are Macromedia's functions; that is, likely Dreamweaver generated.

The key things are submitting your site to google and yahoo, using appropriate descriptive text as much as possible, and getting other people to link to your site.

Hey! Annie still got involved on some level with programming, don't you dare try and take that away from me. [Mad]

Don't hold your breath, Hobbesy. The last programming I did was in 6th grade and in Logo.

I don't have to hold my breath, it's right there, programming in the page you created. [Smile] Well scripting anyways, close enough.

*wonders if he should teach annie how to create some basic program just by connecting controls in a visual editor just so Hobbes can salivate [Razz] *

Show me!

Seriously, I've never felt so stupid as I do now that I'm trying to make a professional-looking page. I've even been using the lessons for beginners that you recommend, fugu.

Well show it to PSI if you want but Annie doesn't need to program to make me salivate. [Big Grin]

Right... I just have to cook up a big juicy steak. [Big Grin] Or maybe indian food...

Bah - it's not stupid, it's a lack of knowledge.

And trust me, I live in the South. There is a distinction. [Big Grin]

No, you just have to wear that "Our mission is to save the tigers" shirt. [Big Grin]

Me too!

Wasn't it great, Rivka? I made an interactive virtual Europe trip. [Big Grin]

Trevor: That's true. But growing up as the kind of person that could do anything if I saw it done once, it really gets me that I am not getting this right away. I think the main problem is that I don't learn well on my own...I do better with a teacher, because I ask a bazillion questions. (Where in the South?)

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Um, I was in sixth (and it might have actually been earlier, now that I think about it) a bit longer ago than you . . . I made something significantly less cool.

Are you trying to give me Logo dreams, Annie?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Do Logo dreams have pop-up banners, Hobbes? [Big Grin]

Wait...don't tell me after all... [Evil]

meta tags have fallen out of favor...since google ignores them. Google searches the text of your site, not meta tags. Google will index your page automatically, though it might take a while. If you want to make sure google indexes your page the next time it sends its spider out, go here:
http://www.google.com/addurl.html

and enter your site.
