Would anyone here happen to know the word for the incense burners Catholic boys carry and swing around? They look like little silver balls they swing from chains?... Don't ask why.

I'm not catholic and my first experience at a catholic mass was just this last easter. I when home with my roomate, and then to church with his family. It was an okay time, personally I was real keen on the second row, but thats not my call.

The one thing that blew my mind though was that instead of a lecturn or pulpit or even a table, they had one of the alter boys stand in front of the priest and hold the binder he was reading out of. Is that normal? and if so why?

edit: wrong word.
