I supposedly have all the bells and whistles. Could I have some setting set in a way that it messes with Java?
Something is wrong. On my old gray mare computer I logged on with absolutely no problem.
On this supped up supposedly high tech one...I've had no luck at all getting in.
Help?

what's your aim nick?
Posted by Tammy (Member # 4119) on :
Mac I don't know.
I'm feeling stupid here.
I really haven't chatted with a single soul...since YOU. Now you tell me how long ago that was!

parachat=evil!

Well if you don't know your AIM nick your problem might be that you haven't been able to log on to AIM.
Unless you're talking about parachat, in which case disregard smart ass comment.

You have to log on to AIM to chat on Hatrack?
Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :
For Hatrack Chat, yes. For parachat, no.
Posted by Tammy (Member # 4119) on :
What's the difference?
Okay...I can't log on to parachat.
I've no idea how to log on to Hatrack Chat.
Do tell!

Parachat is where it says chat up on the little "Hatrack River - The Official Web Site of Orson Scott Card". Hatrack Chat is on AIM, www.aim.com
Don't know why you are having troubles. Someone else will, though.
Posted by Tammy (Member # 4119) on :
I know where parachat is. That's the one I'm having problems with.
I'm just going to download AIM so at least I have something.
I really would like to know why I can't log on to parachat. I really do think I have a restriction or something set somewhere???
Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :
No one is really in parachat. We're in hatrack chat on aim, dear.
Posted by kwsni (Member # 1831) on :
I'll hop into parachat, if you want to come talk till you get your AIM name.
Ni!
Posted by Tammy (Member # 4119) on :
kwsni..that's the problem. I can't!
I've managed Hatrack Chat! Woo-Hoo! Does this make me semi-real?

are you in hatrack chat?
I'd love to speak to my new minion!

I got out because I was worried about brain damage.
Those chatters chat wayyyyyyyyyyy to fast.
I'll gather up my resources and try to hit the chat room a little later.

As far as the parachat problem, I had a similar issue a while back. I downloaded some Java thingamajiggy (sorry, no clue what) and it fixed it, IIRC.

On a similar wavelength, I've just begun using Trillian (my Mac doesn't get an internet hookup when I'm at home ) and can never get into Hatrack chat. I try to invite myself into an AIM chat but the rooms (I've tried underground too) are always empty.

what browser do you use? That could affect why parachat does not work. Though as people mentioned before the times I have dropped in no one was there.
Though, I have dropped in to hatrack chat before...and felt sort of like an evesdropper. Now I know what newbies feel like when they have come into irc channels that I have been at forever. It feels much stranger to be a newbie in a chat than on a message board for some reason.

I think I did that...the smokin' coffee cup is the only thing that appears.
What browser? Oh dear... I know this one...
Okay - give me a hint.
Geesshh, I can throw a pretty nifty spreadsheet at you, design practically anything, yet I have no clue what browser I'm using???
Apparently my brain is very selective about the knowledge it lets in.
