*shrug*

I love French. I just can't speak it. Being way down on money, I can't take lessons. But I want to learn it.

I turn to you, my beloved Hatrack Community. Guide me with your knowledge and tell me what steps I should take to learn French.

Thank you, thank you.

Go to France. Lose your passport and money. And all other identification.

You'll eventually pick it up just to survive.

If you walk down the street with a smug look on your face and speak with a general disdain for all that is American, the French wannabes in your town will find you.

I can't learn you French, but if you think you could have e-mail conversations, even basic, you could send me e-mails and improve your French.
I heard it's difficult to learn as a foreign language.

It's all the extra letters. I mean, look how you spell "Smurf"!

We don't pronounce it the same way. By the way, it has been created in French so technically it's more you who simplify everything [Wink]

The secret to French is the placement of the tongue in the mouth....

oh wait, you meant the language.

I can't be of much help there. Sorry.

If that's what being French is all about, then America is quickly becoming the new France.

My suggestion would be to start reading books in French. While it won't help your accent, it will greatly improve your vocabulary. I don't know what level you're at right now, but you can always start with something like Asterix or Le Petit Prince. And if it's too difficult to go straight to French you could check out Le Petit Prince in English and read the two together.

As for speaking...you're just going to have to find people around you who speak it so that you can start practicing with them. [Dont Know]
