Well, tell us what you already have on your list, and what type of movie you like to watch! There are so many, throwing out random titles might not really cut it.
Posted by celia60 (Member # 2039) on :
Raia, that would taint the sample too much.
Danke, Erik! Netflix doesn't seem to have it, though.

Some station (maybe Bravo) showed it several times last month, and I caught it over like 3 sittings. It's no Ninth Gate, but I enjoyed it.

Two comedy classics that no film library should be without: Arsenic and Old Lace The Court Jester
Best ultra low budget foreign film of all time: The Gods Must Be Crazy
Best film to see Goldie Hawn walk around nearly naked for over an hour: Butterflies are Free
Best classic musicals that no film library should be without: Brigadoon Singin' in the Rain
Best classic drama films: The Lion in Winter How Green Was My Valley (also the biggest tear jerker ever) Judgement at Nuremburg High Noon
Best movies to have to know and understand all of the "quotes" The Princess Bride Monty Python and the Holy Grail Caddyshack Animal House
No true film library is complete without these films (and our library has over 350 movies)

I second Trigun and Firefly. Both are quite excellent.
I would also humbly submit Bubba Ho-tep, any Futurama season, and Castle in the Sky.

I love adding TV shows to my netflix rental (ER, Highlander, and such)
Do you like sports movies, if so the Natural is great, I also like For love of the game.
Good Will Hunting is a must see (it is a Matt Damon movie about a genius with some serious social issues)
Lean on me is a GREAT movie with Morgan Freeman (he is a principal at a low budget school)
You should also watch the Godfather movies.

Good Will Hunting American Beauty Fight Club X-2 -- X-Men United Oz (first, second, and third seasons) Office Space Old School Family Guy (first and second volumes) Terminator II (latest remastered edition) Memento
There are quite a few I'm leaving off the list, but my DVD collection's fairly scattered right now. I'll give more when I have more.
Trust me. Especially about Oz and Family Guy. And if you're feeling angsty and intellectual, Good Will Hunting and American Beauty.

If you like reading Dave Barry, "Big Trouble" is a must. But if you don't like reading Dave Barry, run away fast.
Name of the Rose was really creepy but features a 20 years younger Connery and a very young Christian Slater. It would go on my "I can't believe I saw this... in the theater" list.
Spoilers . . .
It has a buttocks shot reminiscent of "The Highlander" . . . End Spoiler

I forgot, have you seen Hudsucker Proxy? For some reason I vaguely recall that you have seen it (or maybe I saw it in your DVD collection...). But if not, there's one.
And in the Coen brothers theme: The Man Who Wasn't There is brilliant, and you would both probably like Barton Fink if you haven't seen it.
