Welcome to the world Boonling! It can seem kind of horrifying sometimes, and will be likely to end in heartbreak, but all and all I think you'll decide that it was worth it.

I hear the ones who wait the longest are best prepared to face the world. They supposedly eat and sleep better. May just be a story to make the mother feel better tho. [Razz]

[Big Grin] I love you all!

First: Vital stats!

Thomas Russell was born at 6:30 pm on May 22, 2004. He weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He has his father's long fingers and cute little chin and his mother's dimples.

And now...since Thomas doesn't have his own nick yet, I'll let him use mine:

Friday night was a restless one. Dad was working, and Mom was WAY too excited to rest well. Opa (Mom's dad) spent the night so he could watch Brother and Sister while Dad took Mom to the hospital. Well, to make this particular long story short...Mom was ready to go on time Saturday morning, but Daddy just couldn't get moving!

We were supposed to arrive at the hospital at 6am Saturday morning, but we were a little late. "No problem!" said the nurses while they checked Mom in.

The nurse did an ultrasound to make sure my head was still in the right place, and checked Mom's cervix. She still hadn't dilated at all! I suppose I could've helped her, but I didn't want to come out! By 6:30, Mom was hooked up to an IV in the labor and delivery room. By 7, I was getting squished every few minutes. I didn't like that too well, but I disliked the monitors pressing against my cocoon even more! I kept kicking them as hard as I could! Mom didn't think it was that funny, but Daddy laughed.

Well, I flat out refused to help Mom at all. I had a great big warm place (with room service, no less!) and I did NOT want to leave. [Big Grin]

At 8:30, Mom's doctor came in to check on her. He checked her cervix, and she was only dilated to 2 cm. Then he put something down there by my head and popped my waterbed! The big meanie! Well, I showed them! Before my water drained out, I floated up and turned sideways...but I didn't tell anybody! See...I can be a meanie too!

Mom spent the next several hours in hard labor but her cervix wouldn't dilate. I heard them talking, and her doctor thought her contractions just weren't hard enough since she seemed to be handling them so well. Then, he put this plastic tube in there with me so he could measure her contractions better. Once he did that, he realized that Mom just knows how to breathe really well. Her contractions were more than hard enough to have shoved me out. So then the doctor thought my head was just TOO big for her pelvis. Haha...I had them all fooled! I put my side next to her cervix!

to be continued...

Can't wait to hear the rest. Incidentally Thomas, my friend Ellie's new baby, Sean, was born the day before you at 9 days early. He was 8lbs 7oz and 22 inches. I'm sure your momma, Boon, was glad you weren't an ounce bigger!

Well, Thomas, I guess you didn't get the memo that the part that comes out last is the part that gets spanked. [Wink]

Sorry I am late on this, but at least I haven't missed the second half of the story. I am assuming that is the most important part. [Big Grin]

Welcome to Baby Thomas! Congrats to Mommy and Daddy and the rest of the family.

Can't wait to here the rest of the story and see some pics.

This is Thomas, with my brand new nick (to match my brand new self!). Here's more of my story:

The doctor and nurses kept poking my side, trying to figure out why I wasn't moving down. At 4pm, Mom's cervix was only dilated to 4cm, and of course I hadn't moved down at all.

At 5pm, Doctor, Nurse, and Mom did this test where Nurse pushed where my hiney should have been while Mom tried to push me out and Doctor checked to see if I was moving. No dice. [Big Grin]

At 6pm, Doctor checked Mom again...still at 4cm. Mom was getting frustrated, but was still handling herself really well. Doctor sat down in the comfy chair. (Dad was out getting a cheeseburger.)

Doctor told Mom he'd only seen one other case of CPD (he didn't know I was sideways yet) like ours, and that baby turned out to be over 12 pounds! He said he'd let her stay in labor as long as she wanted since we were both doing so well, but he didn't think I was going to come out that way. Duh! [Razz]

Mom told him to wait until Dad came back, and they'd talk it over.

Mom was doing okay, but she was getting tired. Dad just wanted both of us to be healthy. They decided to let the doctor take Mom to the operating room while Dad put on a gown.

Mom didn't do so well while they gave her the spinal block. She isn't afraid of needles unless they are being put into her where she can't see them. She couldn't see them putting it in, so she couldn't prepare herself for the ouch. [Cry] Poor Mom!

Once they got Mom laid out on the table, they put blue blanket thingies all over the place. Then they brought Dad in. He sat down in the chair they put by Mom's head and held Mom's hand while he watched them take me out.

Well, once they started to take me out, the doctors found out I was sideways. They also found out the cord was wrapped around my neck twice. [Angst]

Boy, was I mad when they took me out and gave me to Dad! I screamed and cried, but they still wouldn't let me go straight to Mom. I had to get rubbed off first, and then Mom got to look at me and give me a kiss before Dad took me down to the nursery for a bath.

Well, needless to say that was a big day, and I've been sleeping a lot ever since. Trying to recover, you know.

Mom said to tell you she put more pictures on her website (link to "More Photos" on the top left).

I'm happy to be here, and looking forward to meeting all of you in the future. [Big Grin]

[Wave] Hi, Thomas! Cute SN. [Big Grin]

Welcome to the world, little one. [Smile] And to Hatrack! Sleeping a lot to recover is a good idea -- lets your mom get sleep too. She had a rough time too!

Do her a favor, mm? No more incidents like last week, ok?

Thanks for the extra details. [Big Grin]
