Actually, in all seriousness, Pat's kid is really cool. A bit of a handful, but a lot of fun.
And celia's stories weren't that bad. I was just tired and doped up on decongestants at the time.

I just got pinkeye, for the first time in my life (don't ask me how), and I had to come to work... I'm a poor boy and I need money! Of course...not being able to see kinda hinders working... Hmmm... I hope nobody uses my keyboard...

I have to agree with the topic of the thread - a friend of mine caught whooping cough from a coworker - and she had just come back to work from maternity leave. Her daughter had not had that shot yet and caught it - ending up in the hospital.
Some people should know better ...

Of course, sometimes people have no choice because they need the money, don't have enough sick leave, whatever. Putting too many limits on sick leave is a stupid idea because everyone else will get sick and therefore there will be more lost productivity than if the one infected person just stayed home.
Telperion, my sympathies. Pink eye is really unpleasant. I came down with it during my 13th birthday slumber party--had to go to the ER at midnight because they were worried I'd scratched a cornea. Man, it hurt. They gave me antibiotic eyedrops--did you get any??

I don't have enough money to go to the doctors, but my mom had it half a year ago and has some extra eyedrops for it. I've been using it and it's getting better. Actually...my eye feels like something is scratching it every time I blink.

I remember I had an infection in my eye at some point. It cleared up really quickly so I never went to the hospital, but nothing beats having pus seem out from behind your eye and waking up to an eye that won't open because it's crusted shut with dried puss.

I usually end up coming to work when I'm sick (unless I'm dying) because I work in a very small company in a specific capacity (that usually can't be filled by other people) and I do not get any sick time (so time I'm not at work means less money with which to pay bills). I always try to be very careful to minimize my germ transfers though.

That may also have been due to some of the cleaning agents I unleashed in the lab today.
But you can't be too careful!
In fact, I think we'd all be a lot more comfortable if you weren't on AIM right now. I mean, we don't know how infectios you are and getting you off is probably a lot easier than researching it.

On a lighter note, I'm reminded of the time that there were hepatitis B posters up all over the Harding dorms, and someone began putting up posters warning that "hepatitus E" could be transmitted by contact with detached body parts. It was a big help...there were lots of detached body parts on campus in my day.

I actually read an article recently (I think in the WSJ) about how the problem of people coming to work sick actually costs companies more than absenteeism. Not only is the company paying someone full salary when they are not running at full capacity, they also get their coworkers sick (as you mentioned).

Cold medicine does not take away your cold. Only the symptoms. Think of this if you decide to go to work with a cold and think, i'll just take some pills... I hate people who do this because they infect me and being infected makes me cranky. Once I even nearly passed out from a cold and now owe money from going to the emergency room as a result. I was a trooper and finished my day at work though.

That was actually something I liked about working at home. If I didn't feel well, I could still try working a few hours without the hassle of going in to work (and possibly infecting my coworkers).
