I just don't understand the logic here. The authors seem to be saying that people not wanting to give women the right to vote created the idea of feminism. Is their thesis that if conservatives had quickly said "okay, you can vote, but you're still second-class citizens," that would have been the end of it?

I doubt this will be on the test tomorrow. But it gnaws at my brain. It seems like something Hagbard Celine would sneak in just to register subliminally.
