My mom had her first appointment with the radiation oncologist yesterday. I was there when the doctor explained everything, but was so tired and stressed that I don't remember much.

What I'm asking for here is an explanation of what's involved in radiation therapy. The proceedure, possible sidfe effects, etc.

Here are the facts I do know. My mom had her right breast removed in a modified radical mastectomy. She also had some lymph nodes removed. The tumor was 4.5 cm if I remember correctly.

She's finished with chemo, and seems to be doing well. I'm just worried about the radiation therapy.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't really know much the answers that you're seeking, but the family members and friends I've know that have had chemo and radiation say that the radiation is far easier to deal with than the chemo, so hopefully your mom is already through the toughest part. [Smile]

ludosti, how are you? [Wave] Do you ever check your email?

I hope this is easier than the chemo.

I'm doing quite well today! (thanks for asking)

I check my email daily - did you get the email-reply I send you on Saturday?

Ahhh! I didn't get it. [Frown] I don't know what happened. [Confused] Do you, by chance still have a copy of it?

OK, I need to re-derail the thread. ludosti, it hasn't gotten here yet. What time did you send it?

Hatrack goes down and the internet is stealing my emails. I think it's a conspiracy to drive me insane. [Angst]

My mother was head nurse for one of the first Radiation Oncology units. Unfortunately I don't have any details, and she doesn't get on line.

Basically, the premise is that cancer cells, being more active, are more vulnerable to radiation. When focused and zapped, they die off quickly, but so do other cells such as hair and some needed germs in your digestive tract. This results in some digestive problems and loss of hair.

I don't know the rest of the details.

ludosti, I don't know if it's a problem with my email, your email, or just the aformentioned conspiracy to drive me insane, but i haven't gotten the email yet.

If you two want to get a room, may I suggest somewhere besides this one. Radiation has other negative effects as well.

I'm still interested in hearing from CT and others about the original topic of this thread.
