I wouldn't mind one of those without all the fancy "secure home" features. The design looks really nice...

And a steal for just under $500k. A house up the street from me, four bedroom two story with a garage and finished basement, just sold for more than that.

And it's not nearly as cool looking, nor is it at all disasterproof. (Not like we need anything but fire and hurricane proofing in New Jersey, but still).

I'd buy it if I had the money. [Big Grin]

Does anyone else find the whole "protect yourself from terrorism" angle needlessly opportunistic and heavy-handed?

Well, yes. I think playing up the hobbit hole angle would have been more fun, too, personally.

Maybe the guy didn't know Hobbits. [Smile]

Jeez, not know what a Hobbit is?!? You'd have to be living in some kind of....

oh.

This guy probably knows what a Hobbit is. He probably has a couple of them hanging over the fireplace.

I want.

I don't think the terrorism aspects heavy-handed, since this was obviously why the house was designed the way it was: By paranoids for paranoids.

If it was just an underground house without the cool security toys and they hyped the terrorism angle, that would opportunistic.

Hyping the anti-Nazgul features is fair game, though.

Is it me or is it kind of weird that this totally disaster proofed cave/house had sheetmetal roll-up doors. Was there some sort of reinforcement mentioned that I missed. I read almost the whole site (skimmed really) but didn't see any reference to those doors in the pictures.

Yeah I get there's a safe room in the event of an actual emergency, but if you're not already in it when the stuff hit's the fan, it's too little too late, in my opinion.

Ummm

I use to live in colcorado and about the only disaster they have to contend with in that part of the state is Blizzards.

Looks like that sight would get bogged down and you would have to wait 6 months for the snow to clear from the door before you could get out again.

I hope the storeroom is full
