I think I finally settled on a feature story for my journalism class (I asked for help with ideas on the forum last week, but no one seemed very helpful...seriously, people, unlike some others, I do not come to Hatrack to have my homework done for me! [Grumble] ).

That aside. [Smile] The March for Women's Lives is coming up -- April 25th on the Mall in Washington. I'm using that as the premise for my story -- our feminist and pro-choice groups are sending delegations. Since this is a feature story, though, what I really want to write about is the state of feminism in general and on college campuses in particular. Along those lines, I've developed a short questionaire that I'm sending out to the feminist, pro-choice, and pro-life groups on campus here, and I'm trying to reach a wide range of people from around the country as well. While I will incorporate a number of statistics from previously published research surveys, it's really personal comments that will be integral to my story and really flesh it out. I'm hoping I will get some Hatrack respondants since it's the best way I have of getting in touch with the communities beyond college campuses.

If you have a few free moments, I would really appreciate it if you would answer the questions I've posted on my site and e-mail them to me. Please don't feel you have to answer all the questions -- whatever you have the time/energy for would be *most* appreciated. Also, for those of you who are college students and know how to get in touch with feminist/pro-choice/pro-life groups on your campuses, I would be *most* grateful if you could forward this website link on to them or let me know how I can get in touch with them.

The questions are here.

Thank you *so* much.

Is this just for women, or can I answer too?

Anyone at all. I'm actually hoping there are some men that can provide some insight, especially to speak to the perception of feminists as rabid man-haters, and how feminists and the movement in general can try and change that.

It may take me a few days, but I'm happy to do it [Smile]

Feminism used to be cool until the lesbians took over.

I think equal pay for equal work is good, but that's not what they're talking about anymore. They're talking about liberating women from the burdens of childbearing and child-rearing.

Would you mind if I posted the questions, a email link to your email, as well as my own answers on my blog?

vwiggin,

Go ahead [Smile]

romanylass,

Whenever you get the chance, thank you so much [Smile]

Filling it out now. Some of these topics would make good discussion fodder -- maybe you'll want to report back to Hatrack with your survey results?

As for hooking up with my college groups: linky linky

Here are my answers.

There are some formatting issues, and I didn't run it through a spell checker though.

If theres a misspelling, please don't go "[sic]" if you are using it in a story, just change it [Smile] .

Not that you will use my quotes. I am very much not confident in my answers. Please be kind [Smile] .

Oh and if someone (especially Niki) wants to refute any of my answers, please feel free [Smile] . Maybe not on this thread, but my email is in there. Or just IM (XavierM01).

May I send this in an email to my friends? I have friends and family all over the country, and I think that a few of them would be interested in participating. If I put it in email format, then they can just type in stuff and fwd it back to you, which would mean they would be more likely to participate. I'd also like to copy/paste your post here on hatrack (with some bits cut out that are hatrack-specific) as an intro to the email.

Sound good?

I emailed you the answers, Kasie, but forgot to put in a subject. Sorry. Look for something from Ami Chopine

jexx,

That would be much, much appreciated [Smile]

Richard & Amka -- thanks so much for your responses.

I'd be willing to post my answers here, but I'm reluctant to give my real name and email address. Does my Dagonee persona here provide enough credibility to make the answers useful?

Dagonee

I'll answer them - probably not today though.
Tomorrow ok?

Dagonee,

That's fine. If I decide to use your comments, would you mind of I created a generic pseydonym (sp?) in my story with a note that the name had been changed? That way it will still flow like a news story.

and imogen, whenever is great [Smile] The rough draft for this is due a week from Monday.

Will you be notifying us if you're planning to use comments from our answers?

Sent mine in. Do post your paper/story here when it is done. I'd love to hear what you found, and know your conclusions.

BTW Kasie, you have a great name. [Smile]

Kasie, that sounds fine - I'll try to post by the end of the week.

Dagonee
P.S., will you share the article with Hatrack(assuming everyone you quote agrees to it)?

vwiggin,

Thanks. I'll tell my mom you said so [Big Grin]

Okay, sent the email to my small circle of friends. [Smile]

Now I have to answer the questions, too!

Later tonight.

I promise.

OMG, Kasie, my uncle cc'd a copy of his survey (filled out of course) that he sent to you.

The man is hilarious.

He's got his opinions, that's for sure.

BTW "Jennifer Edwards" is my real name (he refers to me at one point).

Hehe.

Have fun.

There. Sent my answers. I did my best. Hope it helps. [Smile]

I just sent mine. Also, OSC's latest "review column" about man-bashing on ER last week said in a bit greated detail some of my thoughts too. I think I got the point across in the "anything you'd like to add" section, though without the verbosity and anecdote. . and definitely not the panache.

I'm very interested in your final result from collating all of this.

jexx,

[ROFL]

Your uncle is *awesome*. Loved his answers, and apparently I'm now on his list of people-to-send-funny-things-to, so I got his e-mail of the video of the pole falling on the Asian guy...

[Big Grin]

*thoroughly amused*
