Kind of a dopey seeming title, but I was surprised at how well this quiz pegged me. It described C's personality amazingly well also.

And here is a kind of funny quiz on the same site:Which Philosopher Are You?

Posted by Book (Member # 5500) on :

You are a Dynamic Aggressive: These people are the charismatic natural leaders of society. Think of presidents, prime ministers, generals, corporate CEOs, authority figures -- they're all Dynamic Aggressives. For these self-made men and women, being goal-oriented and entrepreneurial, as well as controlling others, come naturally. You can just about feel their drive to direct things.

Sweet.

"You are a Dynamic Supportive: Charismatic, warmhearted, sincere, reliable, humorous, compassionate, strong yet gentle -- all these words describe Dynamic Supportives. The Dynamic Supportive energy is typified in therapists, doctors, conciliators, clergy, teachers, and communicators. Dynamic Supportives are independent, intuitive, and good at bringing people together, sometimes serving as bridges between Dynamics and Adaptives."

Cool.

You are an Adaptive Assertive: Adaptive Assertives are not charismatic, but they do have the kind of practical leadership skills that make them good foremen, supervisors, office managers, and teachers. They're solid and dependable hard workers, and highly responsible.

Edit: None of the choices on the first 4 questions of the Philosophy quiz applied to me, so I gave up.

So which of us is real, and which is the alter-ego?

Obviously, taking a philosophical view to this, we are both real, and both fake.

Yeah, I dunno either, but it sounded like good philosophical BS to me.

Dynamic Supportive, and Plato (which is way off).

You are a Creative Assertive: Creatives seem to manifest only as Creative Assertives. They often display heightened sensitivity and perceptual ability. They're absorbed in their work, reflective, self-sufficient, sometimes volatile, and visionary; they question life and themselves. They're designers, artists, novelists, dancers, and musicians.

Dude, nobody buys it if you out and out call it BS. Why don't you write the psychological analysis of the person that is celia/T and I'll handle the duality of our being.

It'll sell a million copies. Mostly to the kind of groups that burn books, but money is still money.

I seem to be the first Dynamic Assertive:

Charismatic, nonconformists, creators of social change: Dynamic Assertives, while they may be trendsetters and revolutionaries, are basically looking to control only their own lives, not others'. They know what they believe in and why, and what they don't believe in and why, because these are the types of things they think about. They are conceptually creative and process-oriented.

Creative Assertive.

Oh, and Hegel.

However, I have a real problem with "Which Philosopher Are You?" It seems to assume that all philosophers are men (re: the question about how the respondent feels about women).

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

Which is the philosopher that uses the deep thoughts to mess with people's minds and pick up women over pool?

From all reports, I'm pretty sure that was my dad in college.

Pretty close, still pretty general though.

A slightly weird coincidence, I've begun playing pool (or at least trying to) with friends at the bowling alley. As is my curse, though, the girls are either with guys, or 14 years old. [Wink]

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

Well, I played pool through the first half of college, and I have to admit I never went without a guy. I think you need to find a girl somewhere and take her there as great date.

It was my testing date, because I didn't suck, but I wasn't perfect either. You could see how they acted when they won and when they lost. Very educational.

Posted by Jenny Gardener (Member # 903) on :

They don't have near enough philosophers on there. I always considered myself closest to Kierkegaard. Also, why are there no FEMALE philosophers on the list?

Are women too realistic to screw around with being philosophers? I also know that philosophers make great dates but suck at long-term relationships (for the most part).

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

Hmmm... Apparently reading and following the instructions that someone so thoughtfully wrote in very small print at the top gives you different results.

Dynamic Assertive / Hume (bring on the beer and women!)

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Okay, here was mine:

You are an Adaptive Aggressive: While Adaptive Aggressives are not charismatic themselves, they are drawn to powerful people and have the resourcefulness to work with them. They are socially aware, goal-oriented, survivor types, expert at finding their niche within the power structure and using it. Successful sales and public relations people, as well as behind-the-scenes

Makes me sound like a people manipulator. I don't like that. However, it is true that I am goal-oriented.

I had trouble with this one line:
I can sometimes work creatively at full throttle for hours on end and not notice the passage of time

Because I can certainly get into projects where I work non-stop, don't eat or notice time. But I wouldn't call them creative projects. More like work projects (cleaning up a certain area, etc).

I couldn't complete the philosopher's test -- I had no answer for #5 (about women) -- none of them fit how I felt, and it wouldn't let me score without answering that question.

Pfft. This test didn't even mention whether you like sci fi. What good can it be?

Creative Assertive. Yes, I'm doomed.

And Immanuel Kant, which I found amusing:

"You are Immanuel Kant. Many people today think you were a stuffy Prussian and a moralistic prick who detested both women and wine, but back in your time you were known as the Great Destroyer. This is because you undermined the pretentions of skeptics and rationalists alike by discovering the source, meaning, and limits of philosophy itself. You were concerned largely with constructing a system of practical philosophy, but by the end of your life you became interested in aesthetics. You sought to unite all the elements of your philosophy into a system united in the idea of God, all the while maintaining a humble attitude toward your own capabilities. While many of your followers rejected your prescriptions, causing you to denounce almost all of them, you are still remembered today as the philosopher who laid the foundation for the thought of the entire 19th century."
