Like you wouldn't already know that...

However, did you know this: Pakistan to be key ally ?

quote:
For the first time in the history, Pakistani forces have entered there to finish the terrorists," Pakistani Information Minister Shiekh Rashid Ahmed told CNN on Thursday.

"We are committed against terrorism and we have to pay the price," he said.

"Our soldiers sacrificed their lives ... but we have to face this crisis, and we are ready to face it and ultimately we will get rid of these terrorists."

I wouldn't be so quick to call Pakistan an ally against terrorism. The Taliban has gained more popularity (and support) than the government in that nation, which bodes ill in the fight against terrorism.

Always see the good part of things, ey ?

I always look for the realistic side of things, not what the sensationalist media tries to pawn off as realistic. The Pakistani government has been supportive for a while, but the people are highly against the government's support. In fact, in many towns, the Taliban controls the police and local garrisons. Pakistan is moving toward a coup within a couple years if things continue like they are now.

...and you're entitled to do that.

But still, the declaration was a pretty courageous thing to do, don't you think ? (or stupid, of course, but courrage was always only a step away from stupidity...)

I think this is a case in which the majority is wrong and I admire their government for continuing the offensive, even if that means they won't be reelected the next time. That's better than politicians doing only what the public opinion wants, in order to mantain power. And I think sometimes we have to trust politicians to act against the majority's will, since they are supposed to be better informed than us ornery people...
