Okay, my allergies decided to make my life more complicated in the last five minutes.

Now, I've also had three friends tonight whine about allergies.

wtf?!

Yeah -- it's bad this year. I bought six packets of Claritin back when it was buy one get one free. Just in case.

That reminds me . . . I need to buy some Claritin before this trip. My allergies are especially nuts when I travel.

No kidding, Icky. I thought I was gonna die when we were in Ireland. Supposed to rain all the time, but nooooo... we're there ten days, it rained all of one. Of course it had rained for like two weeks straight before we got there, so everything was nice and blooming. I was taking four different allergy medicines at once just to be able to function. (Yes, in retrospect, this was probably a very bad idea.) The fact that smoking is common there didn't help, either....

It has been a bad year for allergies, no question.

But for me, this week's been no worse than last week -- in other words, *hack, cough, sniffle*

I can tell the moment a plant releases near me - the reaction is immediate. Thank God claritin went OTC and generic...

My allergies just sprang out of nowhere about a week ago. The change of season has happened quite suddenly in Vegas this year. I can't wait until the pollen-bearing plants get scorched by the heat in a few more weeks.

In the meantime, I'm going to Red Rock Canyon to look at the flowering cacti, yucca, etc. (fuzzily, through watery eyes).

What are these 'allergies' you speak of?

No kidding. I don't *get* spring allergies, but have spent the past two weeks with very itchy eyes and am way more prone to get headaches than normal.

I'm thinking about trying claritin to see if the itchy eyes go away.

I've been having sinus issues recently. I've never had allergies before but this is my second spring (well hopefully soon) in the Chicago area so it is possible I'm developing some. No sniffles or anything just pain in the sinus cavities.

I took some cold-type sinus stuff. Would you guys reccommend claritin or start with something lower level if it is allergies? I've never taken claritin before, how drowsy does it make you?

i miss my claritin. since it went otc and generic, medicaid won't pay for it. had to switch to allegra, which doesn't work as well.

Why will the govt pay for expensive allegra but not cheap claritin? why do they give me only $7 for gas if i drive myself 60 miles to the doc, but pay $50 to have their special transportation take me?</rant>

Sounds like everyone's allergies are worse this year. What are we gonna do when spring comes???

I don't have any known allergies of this sort, though I have been known to break out in lumps from bees and such, and morphine makes me itch.

Now, I did have a lot of problems with my sinuses and contacts the first time I visited Memphis, but I don't remember it happening again the second time, so perhaps it was something different.

Mack,
About a week ago, I had the WEIRDEST cold. I thught it was allergies. I was sneezing constantly, and I felt itchy behind my left eye. It was not allergies, though. It turned into a chills-cough-sore throat thing.

Pay attention allergy people, this is important.

If you don't feel like paying all that cash for Claritin, or if Claritin doesn't work for you, then use this amazing product.

"Pe min kan wan" can be purchased at your local Chinese food store, and it ROCKS. HARD. The closest I can come to the translation is "Nose allergy endurance pill" but I'm not sure on the first word.

The box says something like "It maximizes your natural resistance to allergy season and minimizes your discomfort."

Plus, if you take it with one baby aspirin it works even better and helps more if you have a really bad sinus headache.

PLUS it's only three dollars for a box of fifty. [Smile]

It helps to start taking it right before allergy season, but if you miss it you can still take it DURING allergy season and it still works great.

mhmm maybe I'll try it. I have gawd-awful sinus headache that I woke up with. It looks like I didn't get enough sleep last night with the bags under my eyes though I slept like a baby for eight hours. My entire face is a mask of pain.

CLARITIN TIP OF THE DAY:

Take Claritin with food if it seems to not be as effective. Food potentiates the absorption and subsequent effects of claritin by allowing higher blood levels of loratidine...

HOWEVER:

Some patients at risk for cardiovascular events should beware. Elongation of the QT portion of an EKG wave can occur, a condition that is generally referred to as Torsades de Pointes, and can be deadly in severe cases. Keep in mind that this most likely would not occur unless you have this preexisting condition BEFORE taking Claritin. You will not develop this condition simply by taking Claritin, and even if you have a heart condition, you can safely take Claritin in prescribed doses as directed and may still not see any adverse reactions. This is one of those warnings that affects a fraction of 1% of the population...
