Okay... lookin' for a little help here.

Mack and I are jonesin' for a quality place to stay in NYC on the cheap... for, um... sightseeing purposes.

Yeah.

So, anyone have any ideas? So far everything's been in the $150 range or so for anything worth staying in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

PS - Yes, I know I live in NJ. Shh.

CT has quite an impressive emotional range...

...but not much info on NYC hotels, it seems. [Wink]

I could help you with Chicago, but the closest I've been to New York is eating a bagel.

(I know nothing about the safe areas)

http://www.offsoho.com/

Downtown Manhatten, suites start at $79.00.

(I'm assuming you mean NYC, right?)

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

Off Soho looks nice. Airport transport service available, 24 hour exercise room, self-serve laundry room, near a bus line.

http://www.offsoho.com/amenities.html

Hardwood floors
Fully equipped gourmet kitchen with microwave, cookware, flatware and utensils.
Two private phones with voice mail and dedicated modem lines for easy internet access.
Wireless High Speed Internet Access now available at Off Soho Suites Cafe!!
Large marble baths with built-in hairdryers
Air conditioning
Satellite T.V. with movie channels

The suite for 2 is $79/night, but you may have to share a kitchen if the next room is also taken. Separate sleeping areas, though. And the kitchen helps with keeping costs down.

You really want us to have twin beds CT?

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

Mack, you don't need much room, unless you are intending to sleep a large dog between you. [Roll Eyes]

Plus, there is the time-honored trick of putting the twin beds side-by-side. Round the perimeter with a long strip of duct tape, and they will stay together.

Sheesh. Way to appreciate my charity! [Wink]

Shoot. You can get the private room (for 4) with a queen bed for about $30 more.

Nix that $30 more, BTW. In March it would be more like $60 more.

You realize, mack, that I'm going to take credit for this? You have no idea how hard I've been working for you behing the scenes.

D'ya have to stay IN NYC?

I mean, because there are many decent hotels in areas...ahem...just a train ride away from NYC.

ahem.

Areas closer to a certain aggressively friendly dog.

ahem.

(yes, I'll be on AIM in a second, but I have to read CR a chapter before bedtime at ten p.m.)

Other discount hotel rates at http://lodging2.abnresorts.com/servlet/AvailabilitySearch?propcode=LDC;252292&remote=abnresorts .

But in-house 24-hr exercise room, cafe open til midnight, and access to a kitchen seems hard to beat.

Right in the theater district. Nice location if you walk on the correct path to the district & subway.

rivka: *thwap*

Jexx decided that we are not allowed to be in New York state without her feeding us. So...sarahdipity and I are driving down and she's dropping me off a hotel in West Point and FlyingCow will meet us there. Sarah will continue to drive down to her friend's at tha Bronx.

Whee! [Smile]

Okay, me and my girlfriend stayed in NYC over Valentine's Day/Presidents' Day weekend, and we found a nice cozy hotel called Arlington Hotel. It was about 80-100 bucjs a night, It is at Broadway and 25th St., right near the Flatiron Building, and an easy walk to the Empire State Building.

Check out hotels.com.

I didn't think I was invited!

(yay mack and matt, by the way)

Posted by Bokonon (Member # 480) on :

Yeah, mack, but trust me, staying in West Point isn't as cool as staying within walking distance of, well, _everything_ in NYC.

[Smile]

-Bok

Posted by FlyingCow (Member # 2150) on :

Then again, Bok, mack doesn't drink, really, so it's not like the hotel needs to be within staggering distance...

[Wink]

Posted by Bokonon (Member # 480) on :

Yeah, but the while the city never sleeps, a lot of the long-distance public transit does. When you two are having the time of your lives (which I hope for), only to have it cut off at 11pm so you can catch the last train, or find your car in a garage (paying absurd amounts for parking), realize that the subway runs all night and you could be out until the wee hours having a blast, and taking the subway right to the Arlington Hotel much later [Smile]

Just saying...

-Bok

Posted by FlyingCow (Member # 2150) on :

Thanks for the heads up, but we're well aware of that. Jexx promised to hunt us down and kill us repeatedly if we didn't come back to her place for dinner, so we'll be leaving the city in the late afternoon.

Personally, I can only afford to be killed once, and I take the prospect of repeated death pretty seriously.

I think my reaction to the two of you chatting was "D'oy! I wish I'd thought of that!" Because I know you both and you seem like a good fit from where _I_ stand, anyway.

You could still have absolutely no chemistry or something. Hairy Moles, Foot Odor, whatever. [Razz]

But I doubt it. [Big Grin]

You'll just have to name a baby after me. [Wink]

Will Flying Cow's foaming at the mouth turn Mack's knees to gel?

Sarah, if you don't worry about MY house being a mess, I won't worry about YOUR house being a mess. [Big Grin] Seriously. If you have clutter issues, we'd just better have dinner at the Burger King. Hee.

I think I punned about all of the exotic phases there are... though CT could delve into partical physics and end up in the plasma somewhere.

I just talked to mack on the phone, she'll be leaving for NY in about an hour.

I can't wait!

Whee!

Posted by jexx (Member # 3450) on :

Well, I would have posted an update last night, but the internet was broken. *frown*

Flying Cow accused me of breaking the internet myself, but it was clearly not true because my husband said it wasn't working earlier, so obviously my Husband broke the internet. So there!

I'll post more later, but let me use this opportunity to apologize to sarahdipity for leaving her alone(-ish, my husband was there) with my six year old son while she made all the chocolate chip cookies. I had to go to the hotel to drop off mack's things and let Flying Cow follow me to my house so he wouldn't get lost. Poor Sarah! At least the dogs were still in their boxes, at that point! [Wink]

Also: apparently boxerdogs have hive-producing drool. I thought I was just really allergic to my dog, but everyone else got red welts after petting him! Poor everyone.

Tonight mack cooks for us--yay!
