This is a letter currently printed in the Rhino Times, home to his columns. I'd say it was sarcastic, but I'm too cynical to think so:

Dear Editor,
As a newcomer to Greensboro, I’m interested in interacting with fellow conservatives in a relaxed atmosphere for the purpose of chatting, gabbing, joking, exchanging information and bashing liberals. In Chapel Hill, there is a weekly breakfast meeting for a group we called the Chapel Hill Chapter of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, which usually had four to eight members in attendance.

If there is sufficient interest, we can establish a sister chapter here in Greensboro. The site and time would be decided later by attendees, but for starters I suggest meeting each Friday at 9 a.m. at the Golden Corral on Lawndale.

For further information, you may reach me at (336) 540-0863, or by e-mail at rightersnetwork@rhinotimes.com.

I can just imagine the squeals of pleasure this guy is going to emit when he goes to Ornery.

For Heaven's Sake, it's a joke.

No self-respecting Republican would DARE be caught dead in Golden Corral.

We've got enough money to got to Shoneys.

*assumes haughty right-winger pose*

I don't know where your people are from Scott R, but round here we meet at Ruth's Chris. Their garlic smashed potatoes are to die for.

Of course it's a joke, has everyone's sarcasm detectors taken a vacation today?

Oh, my goodness!

Four to eight people in Chapel Hill are responible for everything Clinton went through?

[Eek!]

I didn't catch that the actual letter was a joke....

See, I'm not sure it IS a joke. I mean, if I were making fun of conservatives in a conservative publication, I probably wouldn't include valid contact information.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure it's not a joke since there are plenty of groups like that around the country. *shrug*

I think the name of the club is just another jab at liberals.

I say it's real.

Judging by the other "Honest Bush" and "Yay for No Child Left Behind" letters to the editor, I'd say it fits right in.

The only liberal voice I saw was the one arguing against Card's anti-gay marriage essay. And Card's rebuttal was only enough to satiate people who already agreed with him.

So unless the staff of The Onion has taken over The Rhino Times, I'd say the letter's serious.

Okay, what are we shocked about? I'm confused.

That people get together and talk bad about people who dissagree with them?

That the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy is outing itself?

That Mr. Tanquay would refer to the Greensboro chapter as a "sister" chapter, when we all know that conservatives are all male, and hate women?

I'm trying really, really hard to be apropriately shocked here. Please help!

Shocked? I don't think anyone's shocked.
