Ration rhymes with nation? What?

quote: Um, we are talking American English here, not your silly Canadian stuff. Ration rhymes with Nation.
I speak American English, and ration definitely starts with rat.

Ration stars with rat - not to be confused with a rat ion, which is something that gets chased around the house by cations, which are not cay-shuns, but cat-eye-ons.

I thought the verb was 'rah-shuhn' and the noun was 'ray-shuhn'.

I was unbearably curious, so I looked in my dictionary and was stunned, absolutely floored, to see that "rayshun" is listed as an acceptable alternative pronunciation.
I have to get a new dictionary. This one is obviously defective.

Well, there's another word that rhymes with nation, but I don't think Papa Moose would approve. Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :
