So my favorite little dinner near campus closed down last semester and was recently replaced by this place called Hookah's.
I know that a lot of people frequent it for the belly dancers, but, until the feature ran on Fox last night, I thought the name was just some marketing concept.
This is the in thing? I think I'm glad that I'm out of touch. Are there other in things I don't know about?
And I miss my blue moon burger. No amount of fruity tobacco will ever replace that.

I'd take a nice old Briar over a hookah any day.

celia, when you first told me about the name change and belly dancers, I assumed that there was a little more than belly dancing going on, if you catch my meaning (my meaning is that I thought it was some sort of brothel).

I find it extremely hard to believe that they are just "water pipes" and ONLY scented tobacco is being used in these things...

The article is right, though. These things are huge in the MidEast. My former arabic teacher said they bring out a hookah in most Jordanian resturaunts for people to share instead of an appetizer.

quote: The Caterpillar and Alice looked at each other for some time in silence: at last the Caterpillar took the hookah out of its mouth, and addressed her in a languid, sleepy voice.
`Who are YOU?' said the Caterpillar.
This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, `I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'
`What do you mean by that?' said the Caterpillar sternly. `Explain yourself!'
`I can't explain MYSELF, I'm afraid, sir' said Alice, `because I'm not myself, you see.'

It wasn't listed at cruising for sex, Jon, so I didn't even consider that possibility.
Alice and celia are anagrams. Maybe I should stay as far away as possible.
