Setting a new personal record for pathetic loserness, Matt has just agreed to baby sit not one, not two, but three children Saturday night. Three children who are the spawn of three different sets of married friends who actually have something to do on valentines day. Man, and I thought kissing that pizza delivery guy on New Years Eve was bad. Anybody else want to join me in my misery?
P.S. I know everyone is tired of threads devoted entirely to whining about Valentines Day, but YOU’RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME !

This is really off-topic, but I've always wondered this, and I have to take this opportunity to ask:
Why do they call it Chicagoland?
I've noticed Chicago being referred to in this way when watching WGN on cable. Honestly, to me it sounds like they are promoting a not-very-reputable theme park. So - what's the rationale for using this appellation?

Good question. It took me a little time to catch on to this, since I'm not a native. There is a huge population in and around Chicago. Suburbs stretch for miles around it (we're a good 15 miles out where we live. Yet all these towns and suburbs identify primarily with Chicago, even though, officially, we're not all in Chicago - not by a long shot. Heck, we're not even all in Cook County.
Sorry I don't have the demographics, but there are millions of people encompassed in "Chicagoland" who do not qualify as "Chicagoans."
I hope that's clear. I'm a little tired.

sndrake...thank you so much for taking the time to answer that really strange question. That has been bugging me for years. Really.
But it does seem a little weird that people want to all identify so closely with Chicago. I grew up in Southern California, and it seems like everyone there wants their own identity apart from Los Angeles. When you ask someone, they're from Orange County. Or San Gabriel Valley. Or "The Valley" (San Fernando Valley) - which is really funny because there are (or were; I guess it's still true) parts of the San Fernando Valley that are actually within the Los Angeles city limits. I don't know. Maybe it has to do with the fact that L.A. hasn't ever really had a "downtown" that people flock to for shopping, entertainment, etc.
