Figured i'd clarify in the thread title what exactly it is i'm talking about. I didn't want anybody stumbling in here thinking there was some sort of philosophical debate going on.

I'm trying to set up my Outlook for two different email accounts. and i want to have to completely seperate inboxes. I know how to set up multiple email accounts and I know how to set rules to have specific folders recieve certain emails and the like, but i don't want that. I want two completely seperate inboxes. with short cuts to each of them on my Outlook bar so they can be completely seperate from eachother.

I've been fiddling around for a while and can't find it.

I don't know.

But if someone is smart enough to answer that, maybe they can help me. I'd like to set up several POP3 accounts to use at once -- I can do it, but I haven't been able to figure out a way for Outlook to allow me to send from the different accounts. If I choose a different "from" name, the recipient gets the "on behalf of" garbage. It's Outlook 97, I think.

generally I'm assuming that you're using the outlook that comes with Office and not outlook express, before when I had both my accoutns on outlook (now I use mozilla mail for both, which do it automatically), I created a new folder (File-Folder-New Folder) and then I set it up to foward all mail to that folder (Tools-Rules Wizard-and then follow the steps that you want) there isn't really any other way. Also, if you don't want to use Outlook (for it's security bugs) you can go to mozilla.org and download their mail client (or even their whole browser...tab surfing is awesome, and built in pop-up blocker) and you set up individual email accounts, which have their individual boxes (in/out/save/etc). I've used Outlook Express for years and it can't be done there.

Outlook, I've used for a short time. I don't recall an incoming message routing function there.

Now, Netscape Mail has something you could probably make use of. It automatically routes mail that it THINKS is junk mail to a junk folder. I think you could simply rename that folder to be something else and just route anything for one of your accounts into that spot.

Not sure if that would be satisfactory. Maybe it's got a way to set up different mail accounts with different automatic routing.

I'll look in the morning when I'm at work. I don't have Netscape on this machine (at home.)

yeah, i use real outlook.

i had to create a new outlook data file. and then set my other account to automatically recieve emails into that inbox. and added a shortcut in the bar.

but i'm not sure if i did it right. in fact, i'm pretty sure i didn't do it right. because i have Pops problem also. when i begin a new email in the inbox for the other account, it still sends it from my other one.

that's okay Bob. i don't really want to mess around with Netscape.

I've been Netscape free for about 5 years now, and i don't think i'll be slipping off the wagon any time soon.

Create rules to move the emails from one address to its own folder. You create the folder and the rule, and Outlook will automate this sorting process.

eslaine, i do know how to do that, but that's not what i'm looking to do.

I want completely seperate inboxes, not just a folder in an inbox where mail for one account is sorted to. i want seperate inboxes where i can send emails from each of the seperate accounts.

i don't know if this is possible in outlook, but i'm hoping it is.

Separate Inboxes are not possible if both accounts are POP accounts.

Two IMAP accounts, or one POP, one IMAP account may be created in separate folders.

I used to do just that. Let me rack my poor underutilized brain for that info. It may have been an older version, however.

I believe you're limited to just one POP Inbox per profile. HOWEVER, there's nothing stopping you from making multiple profiles; you'd just have to choose between them when logging into Outlook.

Tom and Dagonee got it. I don't see the problem with shared inboxes, though -- I have >10 accounts and it doesn't bother me. Heck, if something lands in my "inbox" (and not a folder), it's almost certainly spam.

You don't even need multiple real accounts to send from different users. I'm lazy, so I have most of my email addresses routed through the same SMTP server with different reply fields.
