I have a problem with my knee-jerk reaction to someone telling me what to do.
If I am told "Do this" without any explanation or justification and I find whatever "this" might be to be stupid or silly or not interesting, I get pissy.
Well, not just pissy, exactly. I get oppositional. I don't want to do it now. I won't do it. I get mad.
See, this happened at Wenchcon out of nowhere. I was tired and grumpy and wasn't thrilled about the action figure contest thing (I STILL needed to finish resizing the photos from the day before). I walked into the group room intending to do just that and to take photos of the action figure contest.
I forget what exactly jenny gardener told me to do, but she said it in no uncertain terms and I immediately got oppositional. Completely knee-jerk reaction.
Does anyone else do this?

Actually, I don't. I have the exact opposite problem. Due to all my years in karate, I automatically bow to most anything said to me in an authoritative voice if caught off guard, and I'll snap back with "Yes, sir/ma'am!"
I do it instinctively with people who are actually authority figures, and if someone behaves like an authority figure, I'll sometimes do it for them too. It's a reaction to years of conditioning.
Now by no means do I always DO something if it's said to me in an authoritative voice, but I'll usually say "Yes sir!"

mack, you ARE oppositional. I've noticed that. Don't worry, I still love you. Hee. I don't know why you are like that, but I am sure you have a very good reason hidden somewhere in your tightly layered subconcious.

I don't have examples of your oppositionality. I just know that you are oppositional. I block it out because it doesn't fit my mold of you that I am trying to fit you into. Ugh. That made no sense. Getting on aim now.

It changed when I found some authority I trusted. Now I think about it every time.
Actually, now the rebellion goes occasionally passive/agressive, which I don't like at all. There are very, very few authority figures in my life - basically from church (which I agree with) and from work (which brings out the passive/aggressive since plain old aggressive would not allow me to eat).

If I'm being commanded by someone NOT an authority figure, and it's a command, and has no please attached, I'm liable to react badly (depending on who is commanding me)
From authority figures...unless I'm having a rotten day, or unless the command is completely unreasonable, I don't mind. Its something I developed at work to help me deal, I just put myself in a mindset of I am lower than everyone else, and everyone else has a right to command me, and then, commands amuse me, and I'm not offended or upset. Works pretty well, and helps me to keep my jobs enjoyable

I have been told that I have a problem with authority... I tend to agree, although who the authority is makes a difference. If I recognize the authority as legitimate then I usually am ok with it. Otherwise, I might obey, but I will resent it and possibly plot the destruction of whichever bastard dares to command me. Luckily my laziness largely counteracts this tendency, which is probably why I am not in prison.

It depends, really. If I think said authority knows more than me and is generally competent I'll usually go along with it. If I don't respect that authority I'll gauge whether rebelling will cause me more trouble than it's worth. I usually try to circumvent rules I don't agree with rather than outright disobey them.
And people who make rules just because they can really bother me. It was one thing I hated about school.
